With the start of the California high school season starting this Friday night, these talented pass rushers will look to continue their dominance during the 2021 Spring football season. Here, we will break down the 2019 film of each one of these prospects and look into what makes them so dominant and helped them become some of the top North Coast Section sack leaders after the 2019 season.
Robert Gregor-California School For The Deaf HS
Although playing small school football, Gregor has good size and strength for any level of play and is a force on both sides of the ball from his tight end and defensive end position. On tape, Gregor has a strong use of hands at the point of attack while showing good hand placement while getting off blocks and bringing a good thump upon contact. More of a power rusher that utilizes his strength and upper body strength, Gregor can also move laterally in space and track down ball carriers and play sound against the run. Overall, a very balanced defender that has a nice combination of size, speed and strength and could develop into a 3-tech at the next level or 3-4 Defensive end.
Joshua Nisa-San Leandro HS
Nisa is one of the most athletic and twitchy interior defenders that the Bay Area has to offer. Showing a quick first step and getting his hands on blockers in a hurry with good hand placement and creating immediate knock back, he has a wide range of pass rush moves he can execute nicely that involve both speed and power. Playing with a high motor and active hands, Nisa moves well laterally for his size and can change direction quickly for an interior defender. Nisa has FBS or FCS caliber abilities at the next level and should start to see FCS schools showing interest in the coming months and leading up to his Senior season.
Daniel Wheeler-Campolindo HS
Wheeler is an extremely active defensive end with a big time motor and tremendous pass rush ability. Flashing an explosive first step while getting vertical in a hurry, he has an active use of hands and natural bend off the edge with the ability to flip his hips in tight windows and collapse the pocket quickly. Against the run, he plays with disciplined eyes and good pad level while showing strong tackling ability in traffic and can win against bigger blockers due to pad level, leg drive and hand placement. Having a big enough frame to pack on more weight, Wheeler has FCS level abilities at the next level as a DPR player and will be one of the most dominant defensive ends in all of Northern California this Spring season.
Nelson Suisala-Hayward HS
Playing inside linebacker during his Junior season, Suisala is extremely athletic for his size and projects as a two-down Mike backer or defensive tackle at the next level. A true downhill thumper, Suisala is a physical tackler that triggers to ball carriers quickly and flashes natural instincts from the second level while taking good angles to ball carriers and brining a strong thump upon contact. Active from all over the field, he can apply pressure from various angles and gets off blocks quickly while showing a natural ability to time his blitz’s and play outside the tackles.
Damarte Prudhomme- St. Bernards HS (Eureka)
Having a terrific Sophomore season for one of the top small school teams in the entire state, Prudhomme is an athletic edge rusher that wins with speed and a high motor. On tape, he shows the ability to comfortably flip his hips and play in space or drop down to an edge rusher position and apply pressure off the edge. Showing he can win with natural bend and speed, he also flashes good closing speed and plays with a high motor and good toughness.
