KS Prime Beef: Class 3A Ground Masters

Kaws, Longhorns, and Red Hawks, oh my! Here is a look at the Class 3A top ground game yardage producers from the Class of 2022. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="91391" first="Reichen" last="Rush"], 5’10”, 160, Perry Lecompton </strong>– The Kaws featured a talented offense in 2020 and Reich contributed to their eyepopping numbers. Rush rushed for 947 yards and 11 touchdowns in his junior campaign. He will be leaned on to carry a bigger offensive load in 2021. Rush is a quick back who does a nice job protecting the football. <strong>Cody Nevels, 5’9”, 180, Hiawatha </strong>– Nevels is an explosive athlete and is a challenge to tackle in the open field. He rushed for 704 yards in 2020 and found the end zone eight times. He follows his blockers well and is a strong back. Nevels plays middle linebacker on defense and finished with 42 tackles for the Red Hawks. <strong>Kolby Johnson, 5’8”, 180, Holcomb </strong>– The Longhorns junior rushed for 621 yards in 2020. He had two games with 100-plus rushing performances and finished with a total of 11 touchdowns in his junior season. Johnson plays catcher and wrestles; so yeah, he's tough! <strong>Jaxson Haraughty, 5’11”, 165, Columbus </strong>– Haraughty is the lone quarterback in this group. He rushed for 585 yards and threw for 331. His best performance of the year came against a solid Girard defense. Haraughty rushed for 113 yards in three touchdowns in that Titan victory. <strong>Patrick Smith, 5’10”, 208, Marysville </strong> – Smith plays fullback for the Marysville Bulldogs. He is a low-to-the-ground runner and a solid lead blocker. Smith rushed for 541 yards and seven scores in his junior campaign. Smith is a between-the-tackles threat, but he did break off a 24-yard run his longest of the season against Concordia. Smith also competes in Wrestling and it shows.
