Good question– the answer is because when you see these players that are special but don’t have any college offers, it leaves you wondering how can this be. Well, that answer may have many more answers behind it like reasons one could blame on COVID, but let’s not put the blame on any one thing, let’s just say they won’t be under the radar anymore. A few of these players have started the 7-on-7 season so strongly, colleges are starting to call their phones with hopes of landing a commitment from one of these special prospects. Let’s take a look at what players are turning themselves into –prospects.
Defense
Kedrick Reescano (23) | 6-0 RB/DB | New Caney
When we first started to cover Kedrick at the beginning of the 7-on-7 season. He did not have any offers. Now he holds 2 division one offers from Oklahoma State, and one from the University of Houston. One of our greatest examples of a player able to raise his stock during this football offseason and catch the eye of many during the 7-on-7 season. The reason he has been able to do just that is because of his play on the field and his impressive size and build. Kedrick has a very lean, athletic build and looks taller than 6ft in person. He plays very aggressively and flies to the ball on defense. I think he has shined most on the defensive side of the ball playing defensive back. Shows he can lockdown and trail receivers to make a play on the ball.
Adari Haulcy (22) |6-0 DB | Fort Bend Marshall
A two-sport athlete who runs track and plays football. One of the most underrated DBs on this list. Adair has an impressive vertical and shows he can high point the ball better than most receivers. His long wingspan gives him the ability to put his hands on the ball first on passes thrown his way. . He can also hang and trail with the fastest of receivers. He does a great job of turning his head around, tracking the ball, and getting a hand up to disrupt the pass. He can rack up a bunch of INT’s or pass deflections for you and he’s a lockdown corner. Holds offer to Incarnate word, Kansas and Southeastern Louisiana

Santana Wilson (23) | 5-10 DB | Hightower
Santana was another big-time sleeper who is now starting to receive a lot of interest now from colleges. He has been one who has flown under the radar for whatever reason, some could blame COVID for the reason but nevertheless. Santana is still a great prospect to play at the next level. For a corner that can cover the pass so well, Santana is right up there with some of the best open-field tacklers I’ve seen at the DB position. His speed is elite and he uses his force to come downhill and lay the lumber on ball carriers. I like that he actively tries to force a fumble when he sees an opportunity. Also is a very good student of the field and is working very hard to improve his game. Coaches, keep an eye on this guy.

Wide receivers / Tight ends
Joshua McMillan (22) | 5-9 WR | Tompkins
Small receiver– big heart. This receiver has elite speed and can absolutely burn anyone down the field. He has a terrific burst and acceleration from the snap of the ball and then flies downfield to make a play. His route running is lethal, and he can create plenty of separation for himself. Which more than makes up for the height disadvantage because if a 6-2 DB cant keep up with this guy because of his speed, thus making him a match-up nightmare at the slot receiver position. Joshua has a lot of interest in colleges like Colorado, Columbia, Harvard, and others. Great student-athlete in the classroom.
Javon Sorrell (22) | 6-3 WR | Beaumont Westbrook
The intangibles are there for this receiver, such as his height, speed, and route-running ability. At 6-3, Javon uses his height to his advantage to pluck the ball out of the air over smaller DBs. His burst off the ball and route running abilities could all use improvement, however, he can stop on a dime and has adequate speed. this is a wideout that can produce consistently.
Jahrid Hughes (23) | 6-3 WR / DB | Fossil Ridge HS
Jahrid has been under the radar but when I saw him in person, I was shocked that he was not on anyone’s recruiting board. He doesn’t have a whole lot of tape, but from what I have noticed along with everyone else, he is a terrific receiver with great skill. I like his quick feet, his ability to get off the line of scrimmage, and his ability to cut up the field. He can find the end zone and get open and make a nice target for a quarterback. He is also always working towards the ball. I think as the 7-on-7 season counties, Jahrid will continue to build interest and wind up on a few recruiting boards down the road.
C/O 23 Jahrid Hughes from Fossil Ridge HS is a name to know! His size, speed and route running ability, make him a dangerous threat on the field. He is a tall lengthy receiver, with a long wingspan and legs. More film next year should help. pic.twitter.com/H4gxl9cE6N

Kelemani Phillip Kailahi (22) | 6-4 TE/DE | North Catholic HS
Mani, as everyone calls him. Was a big receiving tight end who had decent route-running ability at the last 7-on-7 tournament. I liked his ability to move for his size and his ability to catch the ball Another severally underrated tight end that can move well for his size. I like his ability to get off the line of scrimmage and get downfield. On tape, Mani is a nasty blocking tight end, that can crack down on defenders and get to the next level as well. He looks to make an impact in the run game and racks up plenty of pancakes. I think this work this offseason should improve his route running ability for next season and should be fun to watch.

Quarterbacks
Kevin Henry-Jennings (22) | 6-1 QB| South Oak Cliff HS
First-team all-conference last season, In 9 games Kevin threw for over 1,400 yards,19 touchdowns boasting a 68 percent completion percentage rating. Not much dancing in the pocket when it comes to this quarterback. Just snap him the ball and he’ll set back and rifle the ball downfield. He has a very strong arm and can fit the ball into tighter windows than most can. Kevin easily launches the ball down the field and with great touch. I love this QB prospect and I think he should be among the best in his class. One who has truly risen his stock during this 7-on-7 season and will be only a matter of time before offers to start to fly in for this guy.
Roderick Harstfield Jr. (23) | 6-1 QB | Waxahachie HS
Dual-threat quarterback who has elite speed and agility, enough to take the ball all the way to the end zone himself. He is proficient in the short to the intermediate passing game and can hit slants and the short route passes with pinpoint accuracy. Definitely, one to keep an eye on.
Christopher Gilbert Jr. (23) | 6-0 QB | Tompkins HS
Another dual-threat quarterback that has beautiful footwork in the pocket and can deliver strikes downfield. Christopher’s athletic ability is just as impressive as his arm. He shows dangerous speed and agility and can tuck and run with the ball himself. Average height for a QB but has a terrific athletic build. Should prove to be special this season.
Luke Wilson (22) | 6-4 QB | Lamar HS
Luke is a tall lengthy gun slinger that can sling the ball downfield with ease. Every time I see Luke throw, I always wonder why he wasn’t on anyone’s recruiting radar. He is calm and poised in the pocket and can deliver bombs downfield with pinpoint accuracy as demonstrated below. Footwork and mechanics could use improvement but with the right coaching that can be accomplished. One that has the intangibles to be a QB at the next level. One to watch for next season.

Dylan Garrett (22) | 6-5 QB | Lamar Consolidated HS
Huge sleeper of a QB that is extremely under the radar. He showed great arm strength and accuracy throwing the ball. Hitting receivers in stride or splitting coverage, Garrett has excellent velocity on all of his throws. His height and size are great from the QB position and he can use his leverage to launch bombs down the field. He earned Offensive New Comer of the year last season according to the Houston Chronicles. Dylan threw for over 1,500 yards with 9 touchdowns and only 6 inceptions in 7 games. Pretty impressive, defiantly a name to know and watch out for next season.
