ATH: Jeff Mckenzie, 5’10”, 190, 2021, Mountain Ridge Miners
Jeff is an athlete who is a huge contributor on both sides of the ball at running back and an outside linebacker. As a running back, his team does a great job of putting him in positions to take advantage of his ability to accelerate. He’s able to get to the edge of the defense on outside plays such as tosses, outside zones, and jet sweeps, where he is then able to create explosive plays on the sideline. He has also displayed the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield with short routes like swings or screens and catch the ball downfield on wheel routes or even on various other routes when placed outside. As an outside linebacker, Jeff is a sure tackler on the edge of the defense. He does a good job of using his hands to take on blocks with excellent hand placement, effectively stalemating the blocker and setting the edge of the defense where he can then shed the block and make the tackle. In coverage, Jeff has displayed the ability to read the play in front of him and quickly react to the ball so he can quickly end the play. Jeff’s “do whatever it takes’ attitude is very evident in his play and I think that will lead to him having an excellent season for the Miners this spring!
RB: Breven Stubbs Breven Stubbs 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Fort Hill | 2022 State MD , 6’0″, 180, 2022, Fort Hill Sentinels
Breven is a running back that pairs his vision and shiftiness with a dominant speed element. He does an excellent job navigating his team’s power running game. This allows him to explode through the hole into the open field, where he can use his shiftiness to make a back-end defender miss. He consistently uses his speed to win the foot race to the endzone. His speed also makes him perfect for the outside run schemes his team uses like tosses, jet-sweeps, and even reverses that get him on the edge of the defense where he can turn the corner and explode up the sideline to create huge gains. Breven has also demonstrated his ability to make plays as a receiver out of the backfield. He’s able to use his speed to get behind the defense on streaks down the field, making him a constant threat to score as a receiver if the defense doesn’t account for him or if he can make the first defender miss. Breven has proven himself as a very skilled return man. He is the primary kickoff and punt returner for his team where he does an excellent job navigating the field and playing off of his blocks to get into the open field and make the opposing team pay with his speed. Breven’s 1800 all-purpose yards paired with his 25 touchdowns in his sophomore season speaks for itself and proves why he is already a sought-after college prospect, look for him to show off his talents and put together another great season for the Sentinels this spring!
ATH: Trevan Powell, 5’10”, 200, 2021, Allegany Campers
Trevan contributes on both sides of the ball as a safety and running back. As a safety, Trevan displays the speed to play the middle of the field and react to the quarterback’s eyes and eventual decision so he can create a pass break up or interception. He is also a very willing tackler that can be seen quickly getting downhill and holding up the ball carrier for the rest of his defense if not making the one-on-one tackle himself. Trevan has displayed the strength and physicality to move up and play as a box defender. He does a good job of helping to seal the edge against the run and blitzing the quarterback against the pass. Trevan is a powerful, downhill, one-cut runner from the traditional three-point stance as a running back. After his first cut, he quickly gets downhill, breaking through the line of scrimmage and getting into the second level where he uses his strength to run through arm tackles and his shiftiness to make defenders miss when they take a bad angle. He has also demonstrated the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield while winning one-on-one’s downfield to make contested catches. Trevan plays a huge role on both sides of the ball for his team and I think he has the talent to deliver a great season for the Campers this spring!
