Dodge City has a quality group of players coming in this fall. These 10 signees from our Class of ‘21 Player Rankings are ready to be Conquistadors. They’ll be looking to conquer the Jayhawk Conference in 2021.
[player_tooltip player_id="35430" first="Jaxson" last="Gebhardt"] – Southeast of Saline, 6’0”, 185, QB
Every group of conquistadors needs a leader, and Gebhardt can be that for Dodge. In 2020, he threw for 1,199 yards, 12 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. Gebhardt also added 941 yards on the ground. The Conqs are getting an efficient-athletic quarterback.
[player_tooltip player_id="35416" first="Fontaine" last="Dixon"] – Trinity Academy, 5’10”, 205, LB
Dixon’s physicality and awareness will help him man the middle of the defense. He’s a hard-hitting linebacker that does a good job of shedding blocks, and getting to the football.
[player_tooltip player_id="49766" first="Carter" last="Brown"] – Inman, 6’0”, 180, LB
The 1A All-State Defensive Player of the Year should make an immediate impact for the Conqs. Brown has a high motor, and tracks down ball carriers in a hurry. He was also selected to the 2021 Kansas Shrine Bowl.
[player_tooltip player_id="105493" first="Josh" last="Taylor"] – Dodge City, 6’0”, 180, DB
Taylor decided to stay home and play right in his backyard. He primarily played safety his senior year, but shows the capability of lining up at multiple positions in the secondary. His vision and coverage skills will translate well.
[player_tooltip player_id="100967" first="Adama" last="Faye"] – Wichita East, 6’0”, 195, DB
Faye can be another versatile defensive-back for the Conqs. He has a rangy frame that allows him to deflect passes, and he shoots in like a missile against the run.
[player_tooltip player_id="100876" first="Xavier" last="Cushinberry"] – Atchison, 6’1”, 230, RB
Cushinberry is an absolute freight train. During his final season at Atchison he rushed for 1,416 yards; averaging an impressive 7.6 yards per carry. He’s a downhill back that shows good nimbleness for his size.
[player_tooltip player_id="49775" first="Devon" last="White"] – Eudora, 5’10”, 190, LB
White will be an interesting prospect for Dodge City’s defense. He lined up at multiple positions during his senior year. I’d expect the Conqs to use him like a Swiss Army knife.
[player_tooltip player_id="86315" first="Trevor" last="Zarybniky"] – 6’3”, 235, LB
Zarybnicky was a one-man wrecking crew in the 8-Man Division. His size and tenacity will fit in nicely with Dodge’s defense. Zarybniky and Dixon will be a heavy-hitting combo in the middle of the field.
[player_tooltip player_id="100123" first="Jalen" last="Martin-Peterson"] – Wichita NW, 6’1”, 175, WR
Martin-Peterson made the most out his opportunities when the ball was thrown his way. His film shows that he has clean route running, and that he’s an unselfish teammate. I believe he’ll get his chance to shine at Dodge.
[player_tooltip player_id="100793" first="Justin" last="Mitchell"] – Shawnee Mission NW, 5’10”, 180, ATH/WR
Mitchell rounds off this group of future Conquistadors from our player rankings. The Northwest product is an offensive weapon. Whether he is lined up as a receiver, or in the backfield; Mitchell makes plays with the ball in his hands.
