Bigger receivers who are good in the run game are becoming big targets in the middle of the field, and the peach state is now producing some of the top tight end talent across the country.
The 2022 TE class in Georgia is the deepest across the country and there were plenty of seniors this past year too who made a giant impact in the passing game.
Here are the tight ends who excelled in the passing game last fall…
Stone McKnight – Walton
He may look like a WR at 6-foot-1 205-pounds, but McKnight was a true weapon on offense last year who lined up at TE, H-back, and anywhere else where his talent could be used. He’s fast for his size and he’s an excellent blocker in the run game. He’s a physical player who turned a lot of heads this past year as a senior. He showed reliable hands, big play ability, and deceptive speed once he gets going. He was a big playmaker for the Raiders and had a lot of big moments in 2020. He ended the season with 49 catches for 852 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Terriyon Moore – Bacon County
Looking for a TE who can get yards after the catch? Bacon County’s Terriyon Moore is your guy. The small-town senior caught 32 passes last fall for a whopping 773 yards and 10 touchdowns. When Moore caught the ball, he made something happen. He was an explosive offensive weapon for Bacon County and was tough for opposing defenses to handle all year. He averaged 24 yards per reception and was one of the top overall playmakers in the region last season.
Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA – West Forsyth
Arguably the top overall tight end prospect in the country, the big 6-foot-5 225-pounder had a breakout junior season for the Wolverines last fall and has become one of the top tight end targets for major college programs across the country. After a season where he caught 43 passes for 730 yards and 9 touchdowns in 9 games, Delp earned offers from Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Stanford, Oklahoma, among others. Delp runs routes like a wide receiver and runs extremely well for his size. He has strong hands and always finds a way to make a big play with the game on the line. He’s outstanding in the red-zone and is bound for another monster season this fall.
Jake Johnson Jake Johnson 6'5" | 210 lbs | TE Oconee County | 2022 State GA – Oconee County
Like Delp, Johnson is one of the top overall tight end prospects in the country and proved it as a junior last fall. He’s been on the recruiting scene for a while now due to his 6-foot-5 220-pound frame and incredible athletic ability. Johnson is the son of former Super Bowl winning QB Brad Johnson and the brother of current LSU QB Max Johnson. Jake is fundamentally sounds, is a great route runner, and knows how to go up and make a play on the football. Last fall, Johnson caught only 30 passes but made them all count for 698 yards and 10 touchdowns while leading his team to the state championship game.
