While a large amount of the big name prospects in the class have already received a ton of attention, we also like to show some love to a few players we think are good enough to play for some small programs at the next level if given the chance. This time, we decided to take some time to introduce some of our favorite 2022 WR prospects who we think are worthy of making a name for themselves at a smaller program if given the chance. Feel free to check them out below.
Clifton Davis- Woodland
Davis, who will be entering his senior year this upcoming season, measures in at 6’2, 185 pounds and he has great length to his frame. Not only does he prove to be a team player by his ability to make good blocks, but he also shows that he can make plays with the ball in his hands as well. Davis has great short area quickness and twitch, allowing him to gain yards quick, and even put defenders in a spin cycle. Along with this, he also has great burst and feet, which proves to be a strength to his game, as it can be seen that he is a solid route runner. Paired with this, Davis also does a great job at catching the ball cleanly with his hands. While his senior year will certainly be important for him, look for him to continue to add on to his current success and rack up some smaller offers along the way.
Anthony Griffin- Mundy’s Mill
Griffin, who plays both sides of the ball, not only has a great frame for a 2022 prospect, but he proves to have the movement skills that will translate well at the next level. Not only does he move well laterally, but he also has the ability to burst, and gain positive yards. While his route running ability is a bit choppy due to his footwork, we like the upside of his speed, length, and ability to gain some separation on his routes. With this, he also has decent ball skills, and we also like that fact that he has the ability to be versatile player, making plays on both sides of the ball when his number is called. Look for smaller programs to start to reach out to him as we progress into the 2021 football season.
Jordan Buchanan- North Gwinnett
When evaluating Buchanan, one of our favorite traits of his is his ability to stack defenders when he runs routes. Not only does this show maturity in his understanding of the game, but it also shows that he has the physical ability to put these kinds of plays into action. Buchanan also shows that he is great after the catch, as he not only has great burst, but he is explosive when getting out of his breaks, and cuts when changing direction. With this, he has the ability to catch with strong hands, securing the catch in various receiving situations. Because of this, he can be seen to be a big time play maker for his team.
Diego Vargas- Etowah
Vargas instantly jumps off the screen as a player that can be a key part of his team’s ability to be effective in the short passing game. Perhaps this is due to his quick feet, and ability to change direction, and catch the ball cleanly. In a shortage of words, Vargas not only has great hands, but is great at picking up first downs for his team. With the ball in his hands, Vargas also shows the ability to make quick gains for his team, even at the cost of a large amount of contact. As a receiver, not only is Vargas a key play maker for his offense, but he is also a willing blocker. This certainly goes a long way for his team, also assisting them in the running game as needed. Expect smaller schools to pick up on these traits and be willing to give him a shot.
