Because of the physicality, physical traits, and speed of the game at this position, players typically do not see good playing time at this position until their second year. While most LB’s in Georgia’s 2024 class are undiscovered to this point, it can also be said that because of this, there is a ton of LB talent out there that is waiting to be found. Lucky enough for Prep Rezone subscribers, we love to find these young prospects early on, and shine some light on them before they blow up and gain statewide, and nationwide attention.
Ty Brewer- Central
Not only does Brewer already have the size and frame that one can only dream of for a prospect of his age, but he also has the movement skills, aggression, and ball skills that you desire out of a young linebacker. Brewer also shows that he can take good angles, and make plays regardless of where he is on the field. His vertical, and lateral movement skills are not only stellar, but they allow for him to have plenty of success. This pus him in place to come up on tackles, deliver a pop, and make plays. Along with this, he also has great speed, and short area quickness which easily makes him one of the best young players in the state. Expect him to blow up very soon, because you may certainly hear his name even more as the years go by.
Skyler Zimmerman- Jefferson
While Zimmerman can appear to be a bit of a raw prospect at first, there are a ton of traits that he possesses that will certainly develop in a positive light. First off, he not only has the size and length to play the position, but he has the feet and hips that allow him to change direction and put him in place to make good tackles. While he is a bit hoppy in his movement at times, he takes good angles, and gets to the ball carrier. Zimmerman also plays well with his eyes, understanding the development of running plays, and proves to be unafraid to make tackles as well. Expect him to further develop and add weight, and see more playing time for his team’s defense next season.
Ashton Woods- Walton
Woods, who is already 6’2, and 210 pounds, moves very well as a young linebacker. Not only does he make plays in both the passing and running game, but he moves fluidly when doing both. He is very active in pursuit, and is not afraid to stick his nose into tackles. He takes great angles, wraps up well, and uses his hands, and lower body power to bring the boom when he makes contact. We also like his overall strength and the leverage he brings on tackles, and his ability to adjust to any blocks that are thrown his way. Moving forward, we think he will continue to be a playmaker, but we would like to see him improve in his drop steps.
Christian Wood- Cartersville
Not only does Wood have a great lower body build, but he also proves to be a potential key player for Cartersville’s defense in the future due to the way he is able to sink and bend, and move fluidly from sideline to sideline. In doing so, he is able to make big time tackles, and come up on tackles, rather than gathering, waiting, and then attempting to make contact. Wood also shows that he can drive his legs, and actively use his hands when engaging players, which will only improve as time goes on. Expect for him to develop wonderfully for Cartersville, and slowly gain more playing time.
