Whether it is on offense, or defense, their roles are essential, and can flip a game on its head in no time. Throughout all levels of play, Defensive Linemen have been seen to turn the tide of games and razzle some of the most elite QB’s, and RB’s. In high school though, this is where a ton of it gets started for these players. They are able to learn, grow, and mold at young ages, and utilize their size, frame, and power to their ability. While some players pop off early, others have to slowly gain attention and develop in their ability to play at a high level. In the class of 2024, because it is so young, not many players have been given attention. Regardless, we wanted to take some time to show them some love, because regardless of their experience in the program, their futures are bright.
Xavier Sheridan- Pebblebrook
While Sheridan does not have much game tape yet due to being a true freshman, the little bit of tape, and highlights that can be found of him show that he is relentless with a fast burst off of the edge, and that he can make plays in pursuit. While he does not have an overwhelmingly big frame as a DE yet, his frame shows the fact that he can potentially add weight, which will help him as he rushes the passer. Moving forward into his next 3 years of high school football, look for him to use the same little bit of quickness he already has to be able to make big time plays off of the edge, which can eventually result in turnovers, or incompletions when the QB drops back to pass. Expect this upcoming season to be big for him.
Omar White- Lee County
At 6’2, and 310 pounds, Omar White already measures in as a huge prospect. He has a huge body that makes it hard for anyone to stop when he explodes off of the ball, collapses the pocket, and pressures the passer. His brute strength, and small use of his hands can be seen to be a key factor in his game, as well as the explosive ability that comes out of his lower body. His wide body and length also make it easy for him to plug holes, making it harder for opposing offenses to move the ball on him. To make things even better, White is also solid in pursuit. He proves to have a great motor, and effort in getting the ball carrier, while moving well laterally.
Michai Boireau- Lovejoy
If there is anyone to keep tabs on from this list, it will certainly be Michai Boireau. Boireau is another DT prospect on this list who has a wide body, and huge frame for someone in the class of 2024. Like White, Boireau shows consistency in being able to explode off of the ball and meet ball carriers in the backfield. Along with this, he also has decent lateral movement skills that allow him to adjust well to the play at hand. What makes him such a great prospect for his age though is his ability to play well out of a good stance, and to be able to use his hands to his advantage as well. As he continues to grow in his frame, and ability, he will only get better over time, and will certainly rack up plenty of big offers along the way.
Terrance Cunningham- Providence
Cunningham, who already has a good length and frame, shows that he is very good at pushing the pocket, and putting pressure on the QB. Not only is he good at using his hands, but he utilizes his feet to help him win battles off of the line, which ultimately puts him in place to make key tackles. Cunningham is also decent in pursuit, with okay lateral movement skills. While he is not the fastest player off of the line, he does have a little bit of a burst that helps him to gain leverage. As he continues to progress, we want to see Cunningham but able to rip off blocks better while also being able to deliver more of a pop. Regardless, due to his early success and flashes of talent, we think he can develop into a great defensive player as the years go by
