Continue ReadingLately, we have enjoyed getting to show the world a little bit about Georgia’s 2023 recruiting class. Not only have some of these players already found time to shine, but some of them have never even been heard of as well. At positions such as the TE position, where players typically do not get a ton of shine, we want to be able to shed some light on a few prospects. In a largely unwatched class, some of these prospects will gain little recruiting attention, even as they go on to develop in the next few years. Lucky enough for them, Prep Redzone likes to be able to keep a tab on things regardless.
Lawson Luckie Lawson Luckie 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Norcross | 2023 State GA – Norcross
Perhaps what makes Luckie such a great TE prospect is his big bodied frame for his young age, his length, and catch radius. Luckie not only blocks well, but he makes great catches when contested, but he allows his frame to box out defenders in a great way as well. With this, Luckie also proves to be a decent route runner who finds ways to gain separation, and catch the ball cleanly when it is thrown his direction. He plays with a great awareness of the field as well, which only makes him even more of an attractive TE prospect for his age. He body control is also great for his age, and can be seen to be something that will not only help him in his development, but set him apart from others within his same position within the 2023 class.
Duncan Hogg- Chattahoochee
While Hogg is certainly a bit of a raw prospect, his ability to get open and make clean catches with his hands sets him apart from most players at his position at this point of time. Not only does Hogg prove that he can sift his way past defenders, but he also shows that he can be a reliable receiver in the passing game when needed. His long body and frame certainly proves to be an asset for him as he allows for better separation of individuals who attempt to put their hands on him. With this, it is also valuable to note that another attractive athletic trait that he possesses, and that is worth watching, is his burst, and ability to get upfield. Moving forward, look for him to continue to add weight to his frame, making him even more of a factor as a blocking TE if need be.
Marek Briley- North Gwinnett
One of the first things that jumps off of the tape about Briley is that he is one of the more diverse younger TE prospects that you may come across. Not only does he show productivity as a blocker, but he also contributes in the passing game. When the ball is thrown his way, he not only catches the ball cleanly with his hands, but he fights for extra yardage. While we feel he has some development left in his movement skills, we still feel that his ability to slip past defenders and create match up problems has already been a key factor for his offense. Over the next few years, look for his offense to further implement plays to get him involved.
Ridge Redd- Sonoraville
Redd, a very long and big bodied TE for his age may appear a bit lanky at times, but his length and size certainly prove to be a key factor in his success. It allows him to make up for lost ground when trying to pick up blocks, and his wide stance allows him to adjust quickly to defenders attempting to come up and make tackles on the ball carrier he may be blocking for. While he is a bit of a raw route runner, he is talented enough at receiving the ball to make key plays for his team. Certainly, one of the things we would like to see most is for him to add weight to his frame. This will be key to his development as an all around TE prospect, who is looking to make a difference as a blocker, and a receiver in his upcoming years.
