There is talent all over, and there’s plenty of small-town athletes who would have no problem playing against some top competition in the Atlanta area. They may not have the same resources as other schools around the big city, but there’s plenty of under the radar prospects across the state who have become big time players in their area.
Here are a few small-town under the radar athletes to know in the 2022 class.
Brandon Denmark – Montgomery County
The small-town athlete is often overlooked based off of his size at 5-foot-6 150-pounds, but Denmark is nonetheless a heck of a player. As a slot WR and RB, Denmark had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage last year as a junior. He has great speed and is a standout on the track team as well. He was voted region 4A athlete of the year and has a booming foot as he was selected 1st team all-state punter by the AJC. He has recorded 21 sacks in just 25 games player at OLB. Denmark is a true do-it-all athlete who will do whatever it takes for his team and the community when it comes to playing ball.
Khristian Clark – Southeast Bulloch
In Southeast Georgia is where you’ll find a big, dynamic QB in Clark. He likely projects as a tight end at the next level due to his 6-foot-3 225-pound frame and natural athleticism. He’s a jumbo-type of QB who runs hard and is always tough to bring down by smaller defenders. He can get tough yards close to the end-zone but does have the ability to make plays with his arm currently at the high school level. He’s a playmaker who shows a good arm and throws a nice, catchable ball down the field. He’s dangerous when he escapes the pocket and is always a threat to pick up big yards with his legs. As a passer, Clark threw for over 800 yards and 8 TDs with zero interceptions.
Marques Johnson – Liberty County
He may not be the biggest playmaker in the region, but the 5-foot-9 165-pound RB/DB is a shifty, explosive prospect with game-changing speed. He changes directions well and has a second gear that allows him to take off once he gets going. HE shows good burst with the ball in his hands and can take it to the house on any particular play. He’s a good athlete and has the quickness and athleticism to turn around and cover receivers as a defensive back. The Hinesville native in Southeast Georgia is a player to know in the region who is on track for a big senior season this fall.
Senquavious Alsobrooks – Spalding
I wasn’t the best year for a struggling Spalding team, but there was a bright spot in 2020 in do-it-all athlete Senquavious Alsobrooks. The 6-foot-0 170-pounder is an impressive return man who also knows how to lay the luber as a defensive back. He’s one of the top overall athletes in the region with good balance and ball skills. He shows good instincts as a defender and closes well on the ball carrier. He’s great against the run and knows how to deliver a pop when he’s making a tackle.
