As good as the 2021 DB class is in the peach state, the 2022 class will give them a hard run for their money. It’s a deep group across the state, but there are many to keep an eye on in the Atlanta for the 2022 class.
Here are a few 2022 defensive backs to know in the Atlanta area.
Jumel Lewis – North Forsyth
One of the top overall athletes in the region, the Raider junior is coming off a big junior season where he made 20 tackles, picked off two passes, and scored two TDs. He is an excellent returner and is always able to make a game-changing play. At 5-foot-11 175-pounds, Lewis has a long frame and shows great balls skills for a defender. He’s a long, athletic corner who can match up against any team’s best receiver. He’s a versatile corner who can play field or boundary corner. He’ll will be a four-year starter in 2021 and will give North Forsyth a very talented and experienced defense this upcoming fall.
Mumu Bin-Wahad Mumu Bin-Wahad 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Buford | 2022 State GA – Grayson
You have to have plenty of talent to win a state championship in Georgia, and the Grayson Rams had plenty of it in 2021, especially in the secondary. One of their top defenders from their state championship run last fall was the junior safety. At 6-foot-0 180-pounds, Bin-Wahad has a great frame and knows how to make a play on the football. He’s great in coverage in the back end and is always exactly where he’s supposed to be. As a junior last fall on an extremely talented defense, Bin-Wahad totaled 24 tackles, 3 TFLs, 3 INTs, and 8 PBUs. He’s quick to the ball, does a great job of reading the eyes of the QB, and became one of the top safeties in the region through the 2020 season. He currently holds offers from Michigan State, Arkansas, Arizona State, Cincinnati, and Kansas.
Treston Jordan – Denmark
IF there’s one DB in Forsyth County who blew up in 2020, it’s the junior Denmark Dane. An athletic safety with great ball skills, Jordan only has one offer from Troy at the moment, but more could be coming this offseason if coaches are able to get out and watch prospects during spring practice. Jordan is coming off an impressive junior season where he made 43 tackles, 3 TFLs, 4 INTs, and 5 pass deflections. He has a high football IQ and the Danes were able to do a lot on defense this year because of his ability to help others with the scheme. He always made sure the defense was lined up correctly and was consistently in the right spot to make plays all season. He shows great ball skills and the ability to cover bigger receivers. He can jump, has good instincts, and could be on his way to a breakout senior season.
Dainson Miller Dainson Miller 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Creekside | 2022 GA – Creekside
In South Atlanta is where you’ll find a true cover corner in Creekside’s Miller. He may be a little undersized right now at 5-foot-11 165-pounds, but Miller is a fundamentally sound DB who has the potential to play multiple positions in the secondary at the next level due to his frame and wingspan. As a prospect, Miller is a rangy DB with good closing speed. He shows impressive instincts when playing the run to go along with his nice ball skills against the pass. He has good speed for his size and is always a threat to pick up yards with the ball in his hands. He’s naturally athletic and just plays his position the right way.
