Now, it’s time to recognize two individuals who wrapped up two of the most successful careers we’ll ever see. This is our first ever Prep Redzone Oklahoma Career Achievement award and it goes to Bixby quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="38531" first="Mason" last="Williams"] and Carl Albert quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"]. You can make the argument that we’ll never see another quarterback match the accolades that [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"] has. You can make that same argument about [player_tooltip player_id="38531" first="Mason" last="Williams"], who did it at the absolute highest level, against some of the state’s best teams.
Between the two of them, they are a combined 88-3 as starting quarterbacks over their careers. Harris started for the Titans as a freshman and went 52-2. Meanwhile Williams made his first start as a sophomore and would finish his career at 36-1. Harris actually won his first 32 games as Carl Albert’s starter and was a critical part of Carl Albert’s 40-game winning streak. Williams lost his first ever start in the 2018 season opener against Jenks. He would never lose again and Bixby goes into 2021 with a 36-game winning streak.
Both players were undefeated in playoff games and walked away with a combined seven state championships. Harris won four as the Titans have won five in a row and Williams captured three as the Spartans have won six out of the last seven. It goes without saying that both players also benefitted from having unbelievable talent around them. They don’t go a combined 88-3 with seven state titles without some serious star power. Carl Albert had guys like Jason Taylor, Rabbit Taylor and current players [player_tooltip player_id="38684" first="Buddy" last="Bizzell"] and [player_tooltip player_id="38487" first="Javion" last="Hunt"]. Bixby has had the Presley brothers, Brennan and this year’s Player Of The Year, [player_tooltip player_id="38679" first="Braylin" last="Presley"].
While Harris has the edge on Williams with 16 more wins and one more state championship, Williams does have the edge on Harris on the field. The two teams met in early October because both teams had opponents cancel due to Covid. Bixby routed the Titans 56-14, handing Harris just his second loss of his career. Bixby would capture the 6A-2 championship this year and also have wins over the 6A-1 champion in Jenks and the 5A champion in Carl Albert.
Congratulations to both players on remarkable careers. When Harris stepped on the field in Lawton for his first ever game, he never could have thought that his career would include 52 wins, just 2 losses and 4 state championships. When Williams took his first varsity start against Jenks at home, who would have guessed that would be the only time Williams lost and he would win his next 36 games and bring home 3 state championships. Both players have rewritten the record books at their respective schools but their legacies are forever cemented with the wins and the state championships they brought to their schools.
