Some stars have already emerged in this class, especially as the 2020 football season raged on, even despite the COVID-19 difficulties. With this, multiple underrated prospects also proved themselves, and while they may not have gotten the attention we feel they deserve, we thoroughly believe that they will get their name out there even more before they graduate. Below, we have listed a few prospects within the 2022 RB class that we feel are worth watching, and have been underrated to this point.
Gage Leonard Gage Leonard 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Christian Heritage | 2022 GA – Christian Heritage
Gage Leonard Gage Leonard 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Christian Heritage | 2022 GA ’s junior year was very effective, as he made an impact for his team on both sides of the football. When he wasn’t on defense, he toted the rock very effectively, and even showed the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, making it hard for defenses to stop everything his offense ran. Along with this, there were also plays that he lined up at wildcat, and gained the hard yards, plowing over defenders and making it into the end zone. Because of this, we see Leonard as more of a power back, rather than someone who will change direction quickly, or put his foot in the ground and take off. He has decent speed, which at his level of play, is very effective at times. As he continues to develop as a player, look for smaller programs to give him a chance at the next level due to his diverse skill set.
Chuckobe Hill Chuckobe Hill 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Brunswick | 2022 State GA – Brunswick High
It’s very exciting to see what Chuckobe Hill Chuckobe Hill 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Brunswick | 2022 State GA can do with a football, even despite his smaller frame. He does not let this stop him, as he is able to not only plow through tacklers, but take off, stick his foot in the ground, and change direction effectively. Along with this, Hill is very shifty when carrying the football, due to his fluid footwork, and leveled running style. This often times results in big gains, and even touchdowns. Hill is also a patient runner, which also results in big gains due to his strong ability to see holes when running in between the tackles. Due to his overall ability, do not be surprised if he starts getting more looks, and someone gives him a chance to play for their college program.
Davion Smith Davion Smith 5'7" | 175 lbs | RB Savannah Country Day | 2022 GA – Savannah County
Davion Smith Davion Smith 5'7" | 175 lbs | RB Savannah Country Day | 2022 GA , who has not only been effective in the backfield, can also be seen to be a factor returning the football as well. He not has a solid frame, but he shows power in his running style, breaking off of defenders and gaining any yards necessary. Smith also has shown that he can catch the ball out of the backfield, and turn it into points, which has ultimately been a positive factor for his team. He also displays great footwork as well, which we would like to see translate into his senior year, especially if he can gain some speed as well.
Jeremiah Ellis Jeremiah Ellis 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Harlem | 2022 State GA – Harlem High
As you evaluate the tape on Jeremiah Ellis Jeremiah Ellis 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Harlem | 2022 State GA , you’ll notice that he has the ability to keep his legs moving through contact, which is huge for RB’s of his size. This helps him to gain positive yardage, and even run through tackles. Ellis also has the ability to bounce outside, and change direction at the line, which helps when plays break down, or when defensive linemen break through the line. Along with this, Ellis runs very strongly, and can gain leverage effectively when defenders try to lower their shoulder. This makes him hard to bring down at times, and helps him to gain hard yards. If he can make a leap in his overall footwork and burst when going into his senior year, he can be a force to be reckoned with.
