Some of the players are flying under the radar while a few are getting recognition. Here are the Top Scorers in the Southland Athletic Conference heading into this upcoming season.
Bloom Township
Willie Roberts (Class of 2022): Roberts has nice speed and quick acceleration which utilizes to hit the running lanes hard at RB. He’s an N/S speed back type of player which is seen with his elusiveness, he also has nice jump cuts and fights for extra yards. Roberts is multidimensional being used in the running and passing game attack with his playmaking abilities which result in touchdowns for his team. Roberts has had time to better develop himself with the season being pushed back to spring 21″ and it will be interesting to see how he progressed.
Ashon J Singleton (Class of 2021): Singleton is speedy, has quick acceleration, and solid as a return man. Singleton can throw the ball well, runs the read-option, and is a playmaker. I can see him playing running back or wide receiver at the next level as of today, but if he develops his throwing abilities further I can see him being a dual-threat QB.
Kankakee
Aveon Pittman Aveon Pittman 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Kankakee | 2021 IL (Class of 2021): Pittman has speed, quick acceleration, and can reverse the field with ease at RB. He reads blocks well and is patient with the ball allowing his blocks to get set up downfield. Pittman is a solid N/S runner who fights for extra yards, has nice jump cuts, and is elusive. He’s one of a few playmakers on this talented Kankakee offense.
Tyjuane Stewart Tyjuane Stewart 5'10" | 160 lbs | ATH Kankakee | 2021 IL (Class of 2021): Stewart has a nice touch on the deep ball, can throw on the run, and puts the ball in the WR basket. He also runs the read option and can scramble using his speed causing him to be a dual-threat QB. Stewart has the talent to play at the next level and is another playmaker on this offensive powerhouse.
Johnathan Pitts (Class of 2021): Pitts runs a 4.45 40 yard dash and is a major deep threat with his nasty 9 route. He’s good in open space where he can take a screen and turn it into a huge gain by reading his blocks and burning the second level of defenders. Pitts has solid hands, blocks at WR, and runs solid routes which are why he’s going to be a solid player at the next level.
Thronridge
Jaha Jackson (Class of 2021): Jackson catches the ball and gets upfield with his speed. He runs a nice 9 route, has speed, and good hands which he uses to make contested catches. Jackson also works back towards the ball which is a good skill to have at the next level.
Parrion Forrest (Class of 2021): Forrest has a nice 9 route at WR topped with his solid hands creates miss-matches against defenders. He’s an elusive wideout who breaks arm tackles, plays hard, and blocks downfield. Forrest still has room to develop but once he does he’ll get his name on the radar for colleges/universities.
Crete-Monee
Ryan Martin (Class of 2021): Martin is an N/S runner who plants his foot and gets upfield. He breaks arm tackles by playing through contact and fights for extra yards at RB. He’s a workhorse for the Warriors offense who has the potential to play at the next level.
Rich Township
Micah Catron (Class of 2021): Catron is solid in scramble drill where he works back towards the ball and gets himself open while his QB is in distress. He catches the ball and gets upfield along with having a nice break at the top of the route which helps him make catches in traffic. Catron isn’t shy in helping in the running game either, he blocks downfield through the whistle and plays hard.
All of these players in the Southland Athletic Conference have the potential to play at the next level. Some need further development than others, but they all have the skillset and talent to make that happen. Keep an eye on these players as they can have a breakout season and get their names out there.
