The 1-2 punch with Hamilton’s Schmidt and Clemente proved to be too tough to contain for the Salpointe Catholic defense. Take a look at the top 5 offensive players of the game:
Offensive MVP: Rodney Clemente Rodney Clemente 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Hamilton | 2021 State AZ , RB, Hamilton (C/O 2021)
Clemente racked up over around 150 yards and 2 TD’s on the ground, providing an instant spark for Hamilton in the first half. On the first play from scrimmage, Clemente found a hole and bounced outside for a 54 yard TD showing excellent top end speed. His second TD came on a 34 yard run in which he broke a tackle, stretched toward the sideline and used his speed to take it to the house. Clemente displayed a very good initial first step and accelerated very well through the holes. He hits top speed quickly and has solid top end speed, and if he gets his shoulders squared upfield he will burn past a defense. He displayed good vision and the ability to make defenders miss in open space. Clemente proved himself as a D1 talent, and should see a massive rise in his stock.
Noah Schmidt Noah Schmidt 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Hamilton | 2021 State AZ , RB, Hamilton (C/O 2021)
The Colorado transfer also had a big night on the ground, racking up around 100 yards and 2 TD’s. His first TD came on a 2 yard run in which he read and cut off a block in the second level and was able to fight through contact for the last 4-5 yards going into the endzone. Schmidt showed excellent balance with physicality as he was able to break a tackle and take a carry for 50 yards, which then set up his second TD on the night from 4 yards out. His balance is very impressive. If you don’t wrap him up, he is not going down. His ability to keep his legs and momentum moving forward after contact is how he can spring into the open field, and shows efficient second level speed as well. The 1-2 punch with Schmidt and Clemente is lethal, and has been the biggest offensive factor for Hamilton in the playoffs.
Cole Martin Cole Martin 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Basha | 2023 State AZ , ATH, Hamilton (C/O 2023)
Martin did his best work on special teams. He is a scary return specialist and is capable of a house call every time he touches the ball. He was able to take a punt 50+ yards for a TD, where he showed impressive elusiveness and speed. He cutback to open field after running down the sidleline to the middle of the field, then made another explosive cutback toward the opposite field side to take it in for six. He is as shifty as they come, and has shown a highly impressive ability to make defenders miss in open space. If Martin gets into open field, he’s going to the house every time. Martin had multiple kick and punt returns to cross or set up Hamilton at midfield which consistently set them up for an opportunity for a quick score. Martin is a legit power 5 talent, and will continue to be a game changer for the next two years.
Treyson Bourguet Treyson Bourguet 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Salpointe Catholic | 2022 State AZ , QB, Salpointe Catholic (C/O 2022)
Bourguet showcased his playmaker ability numerous times as he was consistently being forced out of the pocket and having to find receivers downfield on the move. Bourguet threw a 27 yard TD to a streaking Elijah Barclay after an INT set them up with solid field position. He moves in the pocket well and showed good poise despite the brutal Hamilton pass rush, as he took some serious hits after release. His athleticism was highly impressive, as he was able to scramble out of at least 4 sacks and find receivers or run for a positive gain. The few times he had time to throw, he threw accurate darts to his receivers. His escape artist ability and overall athleticism was a major part of the Salpointe offense this season, and the University of Arizona commit will look to make another run in his senior campaign.
Christian Anaya Christian Anaya 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Hamilton | 2022 State AZ , WR, Hamilton (C/O 2022)
Anaya snagged a 10 yard TD to dig the dagger deeper into the Salpointe defense. He showed to be a solid route runner and was able to get his around around quick on out routes to pick up solid chunks of yards. He does a good job of identifying and sitting in the soft spots of coverages, which made him an easy target to find in the back of the endzone for his TD. Anaya gets upfield fairly quickly after the catch to gets those extra YAC’s. He served as the main target for backup QB Roch Chowlowsky, and did an excellent job of generating separation throughout the night.
