And while many players had tremendous seasons, Estime proved he is as good as advertised.
The Michigan State commit ran for 1,838 yards and 22 touchdowns, putting up jaw-dropping numbers against the state’s elite competition, including Bergen Catholic, St. Peter’s Prep, Don Bosco Prep, Cherokee and DePaul.
He caught two touchdowns and totaled 185 receiving yards.
Estime fed off a solid offensive line, and he ran for at least 200 yards five times, including a whopping 309-yard performance in a 34-14 victory over Don Bosco Prep.
The St. Joseph star made it look incredibly easy all season. Through his size and power, defenders had trouble bringing him down. His initial burst when receiving the ball separates him from a lot of other backs in the state.
Considering the level of competition and lack of preparation leading up to the season, Estime’s season had eight high-level performances, and he proved to be arguably the most unstoppable player in the state.
Tackling him was a challenge in itself, and there was simply no way of stopping him if he saw an opening down the field.
Containing Estime proved to be a complete defensive effort. He does a great job of breaking tackles, powering his way for extra yardage, juking and cutting past defenders and simply reading his blocks.
The senior truly had one of the most dominant seasons against this level of competition in New Jersey high school football history.
Estime avoided hits, and as he got stronger and ran with more power, defenses simply had no answer. He used his varsity experience to his advantage this season, and the game plans the St. Joseph staff prepared certainly worked out all season.
The Michigan State pledge often dragged defenders, and his speed and acceleration certainly stood out as improvements in his senior campaign.
While Estime is currently committed to Michigan State, he recently told NJ.com that he is talking to other schools, most notably Notre Dame.
If Estime flips and becomes a member of the Fighting Irish, an already national contender would benefit from Estime’s power and speed.
He said he will most likely sign in February, and that Michigan State, Notre Dame and Rutgers are the top schools he’s in contact with on a weekly basis.
