Last year’s championship game saw Fleming prevail in a one-point win over Stratton/Liberty.
This year, Fleming left no doubt they would repeat as state champs.
The Wildcats broke the game open in the second half with a strong defense that got a number of fourth-down stops and an explosive run game to pull away for the 60-28 win, completing the back-to-back championship run for the team.
Charles Hobbs was named the MVP of the game with three rushing touchdowns and an interception for a huge game for Fleming. His first score was a 50-yard scamper that helped the Wildcats take a 16-14 lead, which was the score going into the second quarter. He then scored on the game-changing play when he ran up the middle for 79 yards late in the second quarter right after the defense got a fourth-down stop near the goal line by Nolan Japp. The other touchdown run came late in the fourth quarter that put the finishing touches on the win. His day finished with 173 rushing yards to win MVP honors in the game:
