Continue ReadingSix weeks are in the books. It’s an impressive feat to stay perfect at this point through all the unknowns. There are currently 33 undefeated teams in the state. That number will shrink after Week 7, as there are a handful of games pitting unbeaten teams against each other.
Those matchups are Somerville at Woodbridge, Park Ridge at Becton, Mahwah at Ramsey, Morris Hills at West Essex, Lenape at Cherokee, Haddon Heights at Paulsboro and Winslow at Holy Spirit.
Park Ridge and Holy Spirit are on a nine-game winning streak dating back to the 2019 season.
In the Big Central Football Conference, four teams remain undefeated – North Brunswick (6-0), North Plainfield (6-0), No. 16 Somerville (6-0) and No. 9 Woodbridge (5-0).
North Plainfield meets South Plainfield in the annual rivalry game in Week 7, and North Brunswick will face a test on the road against Cranford.
Three perfect teams remain in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference: Becton (4-0), Emerson Boro (5-0) and Park Ridge (5-0). While Park Ridge and Becton will do battle, Emerson Boro is idle.
Three Shore Conference teams are undefeated. Colts Neck sits at 6-0 and will meet Rumson-Fair Haven, No. 10 Donovan Catholic is 6-0 and takes on Red Bank Catholic next in what can be a tough road game and No. 4 Wall is 5-0 with a meeting against Mater Dei on the horizon.
Fourteen Super Football Conference teams remain unbeaten. Bergen Catholic, the No. 2 team in the state, is 4-0 and will meet Don Bosco Prep this week.
Boonton is 6-0 and this week’s opponent is Cedar Grove. Clifton is 4-0 and will play at East Orange. Delbarton, the sixth-ranked team in the state, is 5-0. This week’s opponent will be St. Joseph of Metuchen. Mahwah (5-0) will do battle with Ramsey in a battle of undefeated teams. Morris Hills is 4-0 and will take on West Essex in another battle of unbeaten teams. Newton sits at 4-0 with a trip to Kittatinny waiting. Nutley is 5-0 and will battle Montclair. Ramsey (5-0) survived a test against Verona and now meets Mahwah in the hopes of staying undefeated. Randolph, now No. 18 in the state, is 5-0 after a beatdown of West Morris Central. The Rams will be tested this week against a tough defensive Irvington group.
St. Peter’s Prep is the top team in the state with a 4-0 record. It won’t play again until Nov. 23, however, due to the pandemic. Tenafly, at 6-0, meets Pascack Hills next. Wayne Hills, No. 13 in the state and 5-0, takes on Northern Highlands on the road. The last undefeated team in the SFC, West Essex, is 3-0 and takes on undefeated Morris Hills.
Nine West Jersey Football League teams are undefeated. Burlington Township sits at 6-0 with a meeting against Camden coming up. Cherokee, No. 7 in the state and 5-0, will have its toughest test against No. 3 Lenape this week. Lenape is 4-0 on the year. Haddon Heights (4-0) meets 5-0 Paulsboro and No. 8 Holy Spirit (5-0) and No. 17 Winslow (5-0) will go up against one another. Ocean City is No. 19 in the state rankings with a 5-0 record, and a meeting against St. Joseph of Hammonton is on the horizon. Salem, with a 5-0 record, meets Delran.
