Appleman cited his relationship with the coaching staff and New Mexico State’s offensive scheme as his reasons for committing.
“The coaching staff made me a priority and made me feel like I was the right guy for their program,” Appleman told Greg Biggins of 247Sports. ““I was the first quarterback they offered in my class and that meant something to me. I was their guy and I have a great relationship with those guys. They kept in constant contact with me and always reached out to see how i was doing and I’m very comfortable with them.”
“Offensively, I think I fit in really well scheme wise too. They love to throw the ball and averaged over 40 throws a game last season. As a quarterback, that’s something I love to do as well and they’ll take chances and let their quarterback make plays so I’m really excited.”
Appleman decided to commit now because he felt like New Mexico State was the right choice all along and that he wanted to put it behind him.
“I didn’t want to wait around to play my senior season because I’m honestly not sure if we’re going to have a season so committing now was the best decision for me,” Appleman said. “I feel great to have the decision behind me and it’s a big weight off my shoulders. My sister plays volleyball at Louisiana Monroe and it feels great to be able to pay my parents with a free education like she was able to. Now I can just relax and I’m hoping we get a senior season.”
Appleman is 6-foot-6 and threw for 2,109 yards with 25 touchdowns and only three interceptions for Mater Dei Catholic last season.
Mater Dei running back commits to military academy
Marceese Yetts Marceese Yetts 5'8" | 165 lbs | RB Mater Dei | 2021 State CA from Mater Dei (Santa Ana) announced his commitment to Air Force recently.
Air Force running back coach Jake Campbell offered Yetts in May and has been in constant contact with him since.
Yetts is one of the more explosive backs in Southern California. He can run the ball on sweeps or from behind the quarterback and can fly once he gets into open space.
He led Mater Dei in rushing with 578 yards last season after transferring from Narbonne (Harbor City) during the summer. As a sophomore at Narbonne, he had four games with over 100 rushing yards.

Sierra Canyon kicker lands at Notre Dame
Kicker Josh Bryan from Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) committed to Notre Dame last Tuesday.
Bryan initially committed to Colorado in August but changed his tune when Notre Dame came in with an offer.
He cited the academics and quality of the football program at Notre Dame as the primary reasons for his commitment.
“During COVID, I felt like Colorado was the best option, but I guess I had that in mind that if Notre Dame were to give me something, I’d have to like really think about it. If it wasn’t Notre Dame, I’m not really sure I would have gone to another school. I would have stayed at Colorado,” Bryan told Tom Loy of 247Sports. “Notre Dame, academically, is on the stronger suit than a Colorado and the degree is worth more. I’ve been to small private schools my whole life, so Notre Dame also fits me better as a smaller private school, rather than a larger public 30,000 kid school.”
“Football wise, Colorado has these great facilities, but I felt the unit at Notre Dame was stronger and the family aspect too,” continued Bryan. “Notre Dame is just one of the best teams in the country right now, and they have been, whereas Colorado isn’t as good in the PAC 12. There’s a bowl game every year at Notre Dame, but not quite every year at Colorado. I want to be on a winning team.”
Bryan visited the Notre Dame campus awhile ago but didn’t meet with any coaches or do any official tours due to COVID.
“I don’t know that I would have made the decision if I didn’t see the campus. I saw Colorado. That’s why I went up there and why I committed while I was up there, because I enjoyed the campus so much,” Bryan said. “Going to Notre Dame, I enjoyed it even more, which was just another piece of it. Everything seemed to be falling in place to choose Notre Dame.”
