Jayden Brown, Winslow: Winslow enters at No. 20 this week following a 4-0 start. Brown has been tremendous on the defensive end. He has four interceptions in four games, including two against Woodrow Wilson. He had a pick-six in wins over Woodrow Wilson and Washington Township. Brown has 24 tackles on the season as well.
Michael Miller, Somerville: The Pioneers enter the state rankings at No. 19 following their 5-0 start. In addition to the stellar play of running back Cookie Desiderio, Somerville’s Michael Miller has been effective, throwing for 13 touchdowns to just two interceptions, with 1,172 yards. That includes 465 yards against Summit earlier this season. Miller has rushed for three scores as well. He accounted for four TDs in a 44-28 victory over Old Tappan in Week 5. The Pioneers are averaging 47.2 points per game with prolific playmakers all over the roster.
Daniel Brewton, Red Bank Catholic: Brewton ran for 58 yards and scored on a 6-yard run that led No. 18 Red Bank Catholic to a 14-0 win over Long Branch. Brewton also had a sack, made six tackles and forced three fumbles. Sabino Portella ran for 103 yards and Najih Rahman caught a TD pass for Red Bank Catholic.
Matt Quetel Matt Quetel 5'10" | RB Phillipsburg | 2021 State NJ , Phillipsburg: Quetel ran 17 times for 165 yards and scored on runs of 4, 50 and 53 yards in No. 17 Phillipsburg’s 48-7 victory over North Hunterdon. Quetel has 611 yards and eight TDs thus far, and he has rushed for at least 100 yards in four straight games. The Stateliners bounced back in a nice way after losing their first game of the year to Watchung Hills.
Chris Brutofsky, Wayne Hills: Wayne Hills, No. 16 in the state, has rolled to two straight convincing wins following three weeks of grinding out victories. Wayne Hills defeated Kingsway, 33-6, in Week 5. Brutofsky ran for 90 yards on 15 carries, scoring on a 1-yard run. Quarterback Noah Abida threw for a touchdown, ran for another as well as 72 yards and had seven tackles and an interception. Makai Gray found the end zone twice on runs for Wayne Hills, which will meet Ramapo in a top-20 showdown this week.
