On Thursday, Holy Spirit picked up their third shutout victory of the season. They defeated Atlantic City 39-0 on the back of their rushing attack. The 39 points notched the team’s fourth game of 30 or more points. Devin Lee was the workhorse during the final game with 32 carries for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Michael Francisco finished with a sack and a fumble recovery while CJ Egrie notched an interception.
The offense was led by Patrick Smith Patrick Smith 5'11" | RB Holy Spirit | 2021 State NJ all season. The senior has been one of the best running backs in the state for two years now. As a senior, Smith finished with 221 carries for 1,719 yards and 16 touchdowns. Trevor Cohen took over the quarterback duties as a junior and did it with perfection. He was a player who took care of the ball and seemed to know how to make the right play at all times. Junior Elijah Steward Elijah Steward 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Holy Spirit | 2022 State NJ led the team with 24 catches for 193 yards and four touchdowns.
The combination of Cohen and Steward will be back next season for Holy Spirit. Defensively, Holy Spirit will have some of their top names back as well. Francisco is a junior who will have one more season. Eric Roman and Michael Weaver are two other members of the Class of 2021 who have made an impact.
When looking at the top teams in the state, Holy Spirit is right up there. With all of their returning talent, that will not change come next season. Remember to keep an eye on this team moving forward because they have some attractive prospects on the roster.
