While most stat leaders, throughout multiple categories, have remained on the lists, other players have found themselves on certain category’s top 5 list for the first time. Some of our favorite prospects who have climbed up the charts are listed below.
Coleman Smith (QB)- 5th in Passing -Mount Pisgah
Coleman Smith, QB out of Mount Pisgah, has found himself as 5th overall in passing throughout the entire state of Georgia. This is a feat in itself just due to the fact that there are plenty of talented QB’s throughout the state, regardless of what class they are in. In total, he has managed to rack up 1,981 passing yards throughout 7 games, and has tossed 14 TD’s. In each game, he also averages over 280 yards. A part of Smith’s game that he would certainly like to eliminate is the amount of turnovers he has had. So far this season, he has thrown 7 interceptions, which have contributed to his team’s overall 4-3 record. Due to this being his senior year, Smith can hope to improve in such areas, as to potentially give his team a chance at the playoffs.
Clark Howell (RB)- 3rd in Rushing -North Hall
North Hall RB, Clark Howell has had an impressive season rushing the football. To this point, he has rushed for 1,259 total yards, and has done so over 8 games. He averages around 157 yards per game. Not only does he get the hard yards, but he turns his rushes into game changing plays, and points. As a result, Howell has scored 17 times so far this season. This is part of the reason why his team is 4-0 within their region, and will be looking to make the next step as they enter the playoffs.
Mekhi Mews (WR)- 5th in Receiving -Central Gwinnett
While Mews may not be the biggest player, his numbers speak for itself. During this 2020 football season, he has put up 812 yards, with 7 total touchdowns. With this, he averages more than 100 yards per game. One of the things that stands out most about Mews is his explosive ability with the football in his hands. This is what has gotten him to this point on the overall list. Along with this, when evaluating him, he catches the ball cleanly, and has the desirable long speed you would want out of a receiver his size. He also breaks down well in his routes and is a very crisp route runner. We expect him to start to get some offers from smaller programs if he continues to perform the same.
Mic Wasson (QB)- Tied for 1st in Total Points -Pinewood Christian
As a 2022 prospect, Mic Wasson has found himself as the tied leader in total points throughout the state of Georgia. He has totaled 106 total points, which ties Jabin Ford, who also has the same number of points this season. While he is a bit of a raw passer, his ability to run the football, and make plays with his legs make him stand out among many players. What stands out most about him is his burst, ability to be shifty, and his knack for finishing plays. As a result of his consistency in playing at a such high level, he has found himself in a premier spot to get more attention from college programs. It will be interesting to see where this takes him.
