Cherokee (7-1, 2-1) won 35-6 at Etowah and continued to play like one of the better teams in Class AAAAAAA. The Warriors’ offense has featured explosive plays throughout this season and its defense has been equally impressive with its habit of taking the ball away (Cherokee has tallied at least one interception in each game this season). This week it was a senior wide receiver and underclassman defensive lineman who stood out for the Warriors.
On the other side of the field, Etowah (0-7, 0-3) has struggled through its 2020 campaign. The Eagles do have a few players who have compiled solid season numbers, however, and one may just now drawing attention from college recruiters.
Brady Bocherer, WR, Class of 2021
Cherokee
Serving as Cherokee’s No. 2 receiver this season, Bocherer entered last week as one of the most reliable receiving options in the county. Against Etowah, however, Cherokee was without its dynamic deep threat

which forced Bocherer into a larger role. The senior stepped up with career highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (119). His two first-half touchdowns helped seal the game for Cherokee and with his size (6’2”, 180) he could be a sleeper on the recruiting trail.

Adams finished with 127 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night. If that type of performance can ever be quiet, it seemed the case, which speaks to the season Adams is having. The powerful junior (5’10”, 200) has totaled 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns this season and is averaging 6.3 yards per carry as the focal point of the entire offense.
Kyan Simmons, DL, Class of 2023
Cherokee
Certainly a name to markdown for the next few seasons, Simmons may just now be flashing the potential his coaches have been talking about since the preseason. This athletic sophomore (6’2”, 190) finished with three tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry on Friday night. He has an explosive first step off the ball and the frame to continue to add muscle. He also projects to continue to grow as his older brother Nasan (6’6”, 280) is Cherokee’s best offensive lineman and holds seven college offers.
Brock Rechsteiner, WR, Class of 2021
Etowah
Rechsteiner finished with a team-high five receptions for 63 yards on Friday. On a season the athletic two-way starter has team-highs in receptions (19) and receiving yards (308). Rechsteiner (6’3”, 210) showed displayed his potential as a junior when he posted 31 receptions for 581 yards with six touchdowns. A legitimate deep threat, Rechsteiner has averaged 17.3 yards per catch over the past two seasons. A starter at free safety as well, Rechstiener received an offer from Berry College this past week.
