A handful of games took place in a cold, windy and rainy Thursday night in New Jersey. There were some impressive performances to start off Week 5. Let’s take a look at the winners from Thursday night.
<strong>Richard Gonzalez, Bayonne: </strong>Gonzalez threw three touchdowns as Bayonne earned its first win of the season behind a 34-0 shutout victory over winless Newark East Side. The Bayonne quarterback found Christian Ashe on a 76-yard TD, and then he connected with Jerome Edwards twice for scores.
<strong>Jerome Edwards, Bayonne: </strong>Edwards made four receptions for 77 yards and had TD receptions of 17 and 30 yards in Bayonne’s victory over Newark East Side.
<strong>Cedric Bazile/Keshawn Bethea, Bayonne: </strong>Bazile and Bethea got it going on the ground for the Bees. Bazile ran for 78 yards on 17 carries, with a 1-yard TD run. Bethea rushed for 33 yards on five carries, and he scored on a 9-yard run. Bethea also added a pair of two-point conversions on runs.
<strong>Florence Defense: </strong>Florence picked up a 6-0 victory over New Egypt on Thursday night, improving to 3-2 on the year. It was the second shutout win for Florence this year. The team scored on a 40-yard connection between Jake Fajgier and Noel Nabors in the third quarter, and the defense did the rest.
<strong>Ethan Cavallo, Caldwell: </strong>Cavallo scored on a 22-yard run and he also forced a fumble as Caldwell (3-2) earned a 34-0 shutout of Newark Central. Caldwell had four rushing scores on the night.
<strong>Albert Canty, Paterson Eastside: </strong>Paterson Eastside is off to its best start since 1990 at 4-1. The Ghosts defeated Passaic Tech by a 14-2 score on Thursday night, and Canty led the way on the ground with 111 rushing yards on 15 carries and a TD. Eastside overcame a safety and scored all points in the second half. The team capitalized on two turnovers and allowed less than 100 yards in the game.
<strong>Keimar Mickens, Passaic Tech:</strong> Mickens had five tackles, a sack and recovered a fumble for Passaic Tech in the 14-2 loss to Paterson Eastside.
