Pitman at Gloucester, Oct. 22: Pitman, at 2-1, will travel to 3-0 Gloucester Thursday night. Pitman has victories over Wildwood and Princeton, and a loss to Overbook. Gloucester enters at 3-0 with convincing wins over Lindenwold, Wildwood and Maple Shade. Gloucester is one of 71 undefeated teams in the state. Gloucester’s Steve Burkhart is a player to watch out for. He totaled 125 yards on 15 carries with a pair of scores last week. He has been a force in the team’s first three games, and that should continue Thursday night. Pitman will need to get off to a hot start if it wants the chance at the upset.
Monroe at South Brunswick, Oct. 23: In a Middlesex County matchup, Monroe travels to South Brunswick Friday night. South Brunswick sits at 3-0 and has cruised past Perth Amboy, J.P. Stevens and East Brunswick the first three weeks of the season. Monroe (2-1) bounced back from a season-opening loss to Old Bridge and beat down on Perth Amboy and J.P. Stevens the last two weeks. Both of these teams are capable of scoring a ton of points, and Friday night’s matchup should be very exciting.
Parsippany Hills at River Dell, Oct. 23: Parsippany Hills and River Dell will do battle this week in a battle of 3-0 teams. This game was added after COVID-19 forced Par Hills out of its game against West Essex. These teams have had some real battles in recent years, and that should continue this week. River Dell is 3-0 after it handily defeated Paramus and Demarest and narrowly escaped Ramapo, 22-21. Par Hills sits at 3-0 after getting past Mendham, High Point and Montville in rather convincing fashion. Both teams have some real playmakers on both ends and this one could be decided in the final stages.
Wayne Hills at Northern Highlands, Oct. 23: Northern Highlands will look to rebound after dropping its first game of the season in a 28-23 defeat to Wayne Valley. Wayne Hills is 3-0 and has got it done with defense, winning three games by a combined 13 points. That includes a 20-15 win over Wayne Valley. Noah Abida is a capable quarterback for Wayne Hills. The Highlanders are capable of scoring a lot of points, and they’ll have revenge on their minds after last week.
Bergen Catholic at DePaul, Oct. 23: Bergen Catholic (3-0), the state’s second-ranked team, takes on 2-1 DePaul. The Spartans have shown an ability to score, and Andrew Butler Andrew Butler 6'4" | QB DePaul Catholic | 2021 State NJ is one of the better quarterbacks in the state. DePaul’s lone blemish has come at the hands of Delbarton, another undefeated team. Bergen Catholic has breezed through the last two weeks after a season-opening test against St. Joseph (Mont.). Quarterback Steve Angeli and running back Ryan Butler Ryan Butler 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Bergen Catholic | 2022 State NJ will lead the way on offense, and the Crusaders’ defense is as good as there is in the state.
Woodbridge at Cranford, Oct. 23: In a battle of unbeaten teams, Woodbridge heads to Cranford Friday night. Woodbridge is 2-0 after throttling Colonia and Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Cranford hasn’t been tested much either, easily getting past Linden, Ridge and Iselin Kennedy. This one could go either way, and it’ll be a nice test for both teams.
Newton at Lenape Valley, Oct. 23: Newton has played just one game to this point. The Braves had a 35-6 win over High Point last week. Lenape Valley is 3-0 after beating up on Hackettstown, Kittatinny and Hanover Park. These two programs have had some battles in the past, and this one may be no different.
Morris Knolls at West Morris, Oct. 23: West Morris is 3-0 and has silently been a team that has gone about its business. The Wolfpack is coming off a good win over Sparta. Morris Knolls sits at 2-1. This is a rivalry game and Morris Knolls will look for revenge after West Morris won both meetings last year, including in the playoffs.
St. Joseph (Mont.) at Don Bosco Prep, Oct. 23: St. Joseph is 1-2 but don’t let its record fool you. The powerhouse program has lost to St. Peter’s Prep and Bergen Catholic, the top two teams in the state. Audric Estime Audric Estime 6'1" | RB St. Joe's Montvale | 2021 State NJ , a Michigan State commit, is one of the best backs in the state, and he’ll get a heavy workload once again this week. Don Bosco (2-1) has won the last two meetings in this series and it will look to get some revenge after falling to Delbarton last week.
West Orange at East Orange, Oct. 24: This Saturday afternoon matchup features 2-1 West Orange at 3-0 East Orange. East Orange has won the last three in the series. East Orange has surrendered just six points on the season, and has shut out its last two opponents. West Orange has bounced back from a season-opening loss to No. 1 St. Peter’s Prep. The Mountaineers have beaten Bloomfield and Montclair by a combined 97-6 score the last two weeks.
Phillipsburg at Watchung Hills, Oct. 24: The 3-0 Stateliners head to Warren this Saturday for a meeting with 2-0 Watchung Hills. Phillipsburg has had little trouble in wins over Hunterdon Central, Montgomery and Hillsborough. The Stateliners will rely on star running back Matt Quetel Matt Quetel 5'10" | RB Phillipsburg | 2021 State NJ . Watchung Hills has wins over Hunterdon Central and Hillsborough. The Warriors are led by quarterback Chad Martini, a Cornell commit.
