And while the season gets going, recruiting is as important as ever. As of right now, Oklahoma’s 2021 class has 29 prospects currently committed. The 2021 class appears to be deep, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Every Wednesday, we’ll spotlight five prospects that are still deciding their college futures. [player_tooltip player_id="38540" first="Caleb" last="Allen"] - Quarterback - Stillwater Coming into this season, if you talked to people around the Stillwater program, they expected [player_tooltip player_id="38540" first="Caleb" last="Allen"] to step in for the graduated Gunnar Gundy and for this Pioneer offense to not miss a step. And so far, this offense is right there with the explosive unit from last year. Allen does have it a little easier with one of the best running backs in the state with [player_tooltip player_id="38521" first="Qwontrel" last="Walker"]. However, he’s put up some great numbers already this season. He hasn’t made mistakes and he’s had some really good games throwing the ball. Allen certainly looks the part physically. He’s certainly making the most of his one opportunity to lead an offense and get noticed by college coaches. He’s flying up the quarterback board in this 2021 class. [player_tooltip player_id="48802" first="Dominique" last="Dunn"] - Running Back - Mustang Mustang certainly had a lot of hype heading into this year after hosting a playoff game last year and having a really young and talented roster. However, one of the seniors that has really shined has been running back/tight end [player_tooltip player_id="48802" first="Dominique" last="Dunn"]. The Broncos have had an up and down season so far but Dunn’s play has been anything but up and down. He’s been one of their most consistent players and has been an absolute playmaker when the ball is in his hands. We’ve seen Dunn in person once this season and we came away very impressed with his physical attributes. He’s much bigger than the last time we saw him and he plays bigger than his listed size. The biggest question is what he is at the next level, but he deserves to be at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="48281" first="Grant" last="Lohr"] - Running Back/Defensive Back - Jenks Jenks had high expectations with a stacked roster returning after last year’s appearance in the state championship game. However, the one question we had for the Trojans was who would step into the running back role and replace Will Cox, who was a breakout star for the Trojans last year. And we got that answer very quickly with the emergence of another potential breakout star in [player_tooltip player_id="48281" first="Grant" last="Lohr"]. While they aren’t physically the same, you can make the argument that Lohr is having the same type of impact that Cox was having for the Trojans at this time last year. Lohr also benefits from a talented and experienced roster around him so it’s not all on his shoulders. However, he’s already shown that when their backs are against the wall, he’s a good option to go to. [player_tooltip player_id="38543" first="Kolbe" last="Katsis"] - Wide Receiver - Lincoln Christian Defending 3A champion hasn’t missed a step so far this season and senior [player_tooltip player_id="38543" first="Kolbe" last="Katsis"] is a big reason behind that. Whether it’s on offense or defense, there’s no doubt that Katsis is the best athlete on the field for the Bulldogs. And that’s how Lincoln Christian is using their dynamic senior. They’re putting him all over the field in order for him to be able to make plays and it has worked. Katsis has been outstanding all season but we love what we’ve seen from him as a wide receiver. We project Katsis to be your prototypical slot receiver. He has a high game IQ and can make plays from all over the field. You want versatility from your slot receivers and Katsis brings that and then some to the table. He’s a fast rising receiver in the senior class. [player_tooltip player_id="38548" first="Owen" last="Heinecke"] - Running Back/Linebacker - Bishop Kelley Bishop Kelley senior [player_tooltip player_id="38548" first="Owen" last="Heinecke"] stepped up big as a junior last season. Most of the Comet stars were falling to injuries and Heinecke ended up being a breakout star for the Comets. Coming into his senior season, Heinecke was expected to take that next step and be a big reason behind Bishop Kelley’s success. He has certainly lived up to those preseason expectations. He’s the number one reason why the Comets are currently ranked #2 in Class 5A and area and are a serious contender for the state title. But when it comes down to his projection at the next level, we can’t help but love what he brings to the defensive side of the ball. Watch the way he covers ground and it’s difficult to see him as anything other than a defender at the next level.
