Get 25% off your subscription by entering Knight25 in the coupon code area. Enjoy! Every Monday, we break down the top ten games across the state of Oklahoma. During the weekend, we look back at those top ten games and break down what happened. Check back every Monday for a new batch of top games and then each weekend with the Top Ten Roundup! 1) CARL ALBERT 56, BISHOP McGUINNESS 35 A week after getting absolutely housed by Bixby, Carl Albert had to bounce back by playing rival Bishop McGuinness, with big time district implications on the line. And early on, it seemed like the Titans were looking down the barrel of another blowout at home. The Irish jumped out to a 35-14 lead with less than 4 minutes to go in the second quarter and it looked like the Irish were unstoppable. The tackling woes that plagued Carl Albert against Bixby continued in the first half against the Irish. However, the Titans would score right before halftime to make it 35-21 and they would shut out the Irish in the second half. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"] led the offensive charge by throwing for over 300 yards in the comeback victory. 2) CASCIA HALL 7, VIAN 6 We saw a top five battle in Class 2A as #1 Vian traveled to Tulsa to square off with #5 Cascia Hall. And it was an absolute defensive battle as you could tell that both teams were missing some firepower and weren’t playing at 100%. Cascia Hall would stun the visiting Wolverines with a 7-6 victory. Vian would score first but missed on the conversion attempt. Because of that, Cascia just needed a touchdown and PAT to win. That touchdown came on a trick play double pass where [player_tooltip player_id="59692" first="Flynn" last="Sage"] was all by himself behind the Vian defense. The PAT was good and the Cascia defense held on several possessions to secure the win. Check out the HIGHLIGHTS from this defensive struggle and hear from Cascia Hall head coach Joe Medina following the win. 3) BOOKER T WASHINGTON 49, SAND SPRINGS 0 Sand Springs had put together a good start to the season and this would be one of their toughest tests. It would also answer the question of how serious the Sandites were as a contender in this brutal 6A-D2 district. However, it might be too early for Sand Springs to hang with some of the elite teams right now as the Hornets absolutely blitzed the Sandites, winning 49-0. We certainly didn’t see this one coming as the Hornets were able to torch the Sandites with the passing game. They also forced several turnovers which put them in great position to light up the scoreboard. The Hornets have shown that they have one of the best receiving groups in the state and sophomore quarterback Lathan Boone took advantage of that by having a career night in the win. 4) MIDWEST CITY 19, DEL CITY 10 The Bombers are in a fantastic position moving forward as they scored a huge rivalry win and more importantly, a big district victory. The Bombers knocked off Del City 19-10 and they keep their district title hopes alive. On the other side, for Del City, they came into the 2020 season with huge expectations, coming off a semifinal appearance and a talented roster returning. However, sitting winless on the season, they’re now in desperation mode going into the rest of the season. The Eagles will have to claw their way into a playoff spot and can’t afford another loss. The Bombers would score halfway thru the second quarter to make the score 16-3 and they would add a field goal in the second half and rely on their defense for the win. 5) EDMOND SANTA FE 42, YUKON 21 On Friday, we publish our Player Of The Year Watchlist, where we add three players each week that will be candidates for our Player Of The Year award at the end of the year. We also update the stats of previous watchlist players. One of the players we added last week was Edmond Santa Fe running back [player_tooltip player_id="38657" first="Ethan" last="Hyche"], who has been outstanding in their last three games. You can make that four straight games after Santa Fe absolutely handled Yukon in a big 6A-D1 battle. Hyche ran for 200 yards and it was his fourth straight game where he had at least 175 yards rushing. He continues to have an outstanding season and Santa Fe now puts themselves in a good position moving forward, regarding playoff seeding in November. 6) LAWTON AT PUTNAM CITY NORTH Due to Covid-19 concerns, this game was cancelled. 7) BIXBY 24, CHOCTAW 13 Similar to their week five opponent, Bixby had somewhat of a slow start after their big week five clash against Carl Albert. However, the Spartans remained undefeated on the season and extended their winning streak to 30 consecutive games after knocking off Choctaw 24-13. The young and talented Yellowjackets gave Bixby all they wanted but the Spartans were too much in the end. Bixby still has some of their tougher district opponents remaining on the schedule. But as we’ve mentioned multiple times this year, it appears that 6A-D2, just like last year, is a two-team race with Bixby and Stillwater. However, Choctaw certainly showed that they can make plenty of noise with some of their young talent. Despite the loss, we’re impressed with the Jackets. 8) VINITA AT HOLLAND HALL Due to Covid-19 concerns, this game was cancelled. 9) METRO CHRISTIAN 14, BEGGS 6 These two teams have met in the playoffs recently and Beggs certainly was out for some revenge after letting Metro get away from them in last year’s 2A semifinal. However, it was Metro Christian going on the road and getting a huge win and taking command of their tough district. The Patriots would win 14-6 and keep Beggs and their potent playmakers in check for the most part. Early in the fourth quarter, Beggs’ [player_tooltip player_id="46639" first="CJ" last="Brown"] would score to make it 7-6 in favor of Metro. The Golden Demons would go for the two-point conversion and the lead but would come up short. Metro would add another touchdown and then would stop [player_tooltip player_id="38486" first="Kendal" last="Daniels"] from catching a hail mary that could have sent the game into overtime. 10) UNION 66, MUSTANG 10 Union’s back was firmly against the wall after starting the year 0-4 against a brutal schedule. They had to travel to face a Mustang team that upset them a year ago. An 0-5 start would not only be unprecedented for a program like Union, but would really put them in desperation mode to make the playoffs. Union would not only respond to the challenge but they put up some monster numbers offensively. This was an offense that had been shut out twice already and put up 66 like it was nothing. They were led by senior running back [player_tooltip player_id="38488" first="AJ" last="Green"], who had over 200 yards and three touchdowns. The entire rushing attack was on fire on Friday. Overall, as an offense, they gained over 700 yards in the win over Mustang. They certainly made a statement that they aren’t going anywhere and the battle for the playoff spots is going to be a tough one.
