After 5-6 weeks of high school football throughout the state of Georgia, we found it appropriate to revisit the top 5 LB’s in which we listed in our 2021 rankings. While the success of each team in which these players are on has varied, the prospects have no doubt played up to par themselves, especially those who have already committed to Power 5 schools. Some of these prospects stories leading up to this season are just as interesting as their play on the field so far. As we get further into the season, it will be interesting to see if these players can continue to have some similar success to what they have already achieved, or if they will start to fade in any way.
[player_tooltip player_id="33651" first="Smael" last="Mondon"]- Paulding County
Up to this point of the season, [player_tooltip player_id="33651" first="Smael" last="Mondon"], arguably the best LB in the state, and country, has not yet made a commitment to any college program, which happens to be the biggest headline in regards to him so far this season. He still holds offers from some of the most notable, and attractive Power 5 schools within the country. As for his senior year, Mondon, and the Paulding County Patriots have found themselves to be 2-2 so far this season. His abilities to play defensive football have remained consistent, and positively effective for his team. With this, he has also found himself on the offensive side of the football as well due to his movement skills and ability to play football at a high level.
[player_tooltip player_id="33660" first="Zavier" last="Carter"]- Hapeville Charter
Carter’s Hapeville Hornets are 1-2 overall so far this season, and unfortunately, the team does not look to be getting any better. In 3 games, the Trojans have already given up 92 points, despite Carter’s ability to play football at a high level. In order for his team to start seeing success, he will not only have to elevate the overall level of play on the defensive side of the ball, but the offense has to play well too. So far, the team has not scored more than 21 points in a game. Regardless, his ability to move fluidly, and make sound plays is still evident, and we can guarantee that the LSU coaches can’t wait to get him in Baton Rouge, as they too have struggled on defense this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="33661" first="Barrett" last="Carter"]- North Gwinnett
As expected, [player_tooltip player_id="33661" first="Barrett" last="Carter"] has already played at a very high level, and his elevated play has helped lead his team to a current 4-2 record. During the first game of the season, Carter returned an interception for a touchdown, and since then, he has continued to dominate on defense, totaling a good amount of solo tackles already, while also making big stops for his defense. Carter has already been playing like a Clemson Tiger, which is impressive in itself due to the limited off-season. Look for him to continue to shine throughout the rest of the season.
[player_tooltip player_id="33674" first="Chaz" last="Chambliss"]- Carrollton
So far this season, [player_tooltip player_id="33674" first="Chaz" last="Chambliss"] has already had a large amount of success. Some of this success can be expected, following [player_tooltip player_id="33675" first="Chief" last="Borders"] departure, and the expected level of responsibility in which Chambliss has had to take on for the defensive side of the football. At this point of the season, Chambliss’ Trojans are 2-1 and are set to take on South Paulding this upcoming Friday. Chambliss also has continued to develop in his ability to move sideline to sideline, and make game changing tackles. With this, he can also be seen to have improved in some of the angles he chooses to take on some of his tackles.
[player_tooltip player_id="33675" first="Chief" last="Borders"]- Heard County
The Florida commit, [player_tooltip player_id="33675" first="Chief" last="Borders"], and his team are 4-2 on the season so far. The story of his off-season has been his transfer, initially to McEachern and now, his eligibility to play football for the the Heard County Braves. Regardless of his late start to the season, his new team is in a great place to continue to make a run to make it into the playoffs later this season. While he is continuing to find ways to move sideline to sideline and make incredible stops for his defense, his team has already found ways to integrate him into the offense at times as well.
