There are multiple undefeated teams left in Classes 3A-1A heading into Week Six. Teams are working hard to solidify their district seeding and insure a home game for the first round of playoffs.
Here is a scouting report and preview of the significant district matchups and players who have the opportunity to post big offensive numbers.
<strong>Class 3A</strong>
<strong>Wichita Collegiate (6-0) at Halstead (3-3)</strong>
Wichita Collegiate is undefeated after six games and being led by two different players on offense and defense. Sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35662" first="Wesley" last="Fair"]</strong> has been the top producer on offense. He has rushed for 952 yards in six games and has 16 rushing touchdowns. In addition, the young quarterback has thrown for five touchdowns and 461 yards. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35606" first="Drew" last="Charbonneau"]</strong>, a junior middle linebacker leads the Spartans in tackles with 37. He also has three sacks and a fumble recovery so far in 2020.
<strong>Rock Creek (4-1) at Holton (5-1)</strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="49738" first="Brooks" last="Whaley"]</strong> is having a big season for the Mustangs. The Rock Creek senior has caught 35 balls for 700 yards. He has found the end zone six times with receptions and has one kickoff return for a touchdown. Rock Creek also has an offensive weapon in <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35691" first="Yanci" last="Spiller"]</strong>. Spiller has nine receptions two of which resulted in touchdowns. Holton runs the ball with great efficiency and will try to dominate clock time which will keep the Rock Creek duo either playing defense or off the field.
<strong>Class 2A</strong>
<strong>Osage City (5-1) at Eureka (4-2)</strong>
Quarterback <strong>Landon Boss</strong> is having a season as dominating as some of the most notorious political or crime bosses in history. The sophomore has rushed for 684 yards and scored 17 rushing touchdowns for the Indians. The dual-threat quarterbacks as passed for 988 yards and thrown 16 touchdown passes. The Tornados defense will have its hands full trying to contain the young signal-caller.
<strong>Hoisington (6-0) at Norton County (4-2)</strong>
The Norton Bluejays have a solid one-two punch of defense. Sophomore linebacker <strong>Sean Anderson</strong> leads the team with 65 tackles while senior defensive end <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35464" first="Gavin" last="Sproul"]</strong> has 57 tackles, nine of which were tackles for loss. Hoisington has a balanced offense which may try to runs plays away from Norton’s top two tacklers.
<strong>Class 1A</strong>
<strong>Ell-Saline (2-4) at Smith Center (5-1)</strong>
Smith Center has multiple players producing for a balanced offense. The Redmen have three athletes who have rushed for more than 200 yards. Senior <strong>Chase Maxwell</strong> leads Smith Center with 413 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns. Sophomore fullback <strong>Jake Sasse</strong> has three touchdowns and 344 yards rushing. <strong>Nate Hendrich</strong> has a total of 212 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground.ha
