Maize South ran up against an explosive Derby offense in their final regular season game falling 48-10.
[player_tooltip player_id="35363" first="Brandon" last="Bowles"] one of the top linebackers in Class 5A had a solid night in the loss.
<strong>Players of the Game</strong>
<strong>LB, [player_tooltip player_id="35363" first="Brandon" last="Bowles"], 6’1”,190 (’21 Ranked No. 30)</strong> – Bowles is a tough and aggressive defensive player. He has a nose for the football and good lateral movement. He had four tackles and a sack in the first half against Derby. Bowles has received offers from JUCO level programs.
<strong>LB, Harper Kennedy, 6’1”, 180  </strong>– Maize South has higher ranked players than Kennedy, but Kennedy had a solid game against the Panthers. Kennedy has six tackles and a sack in the first half again Derby. He is a quick linebacker and finishes tackles. He has verbally committed to play baseball at Newman University.
<strong>RB, Evan Cantu, 5’8”, 175 </strong>– Cantu is starting at running back for the Mavericks after a season-ending injury to [player_tooltip player_id="35410" first="Hunter" last="Niemann"]. Cantu, a junior, is fast and knows how to make tacklers miss. He carried the ball 19 times for 112 yards.  He had multiple carries for more than 20-yard gains.
