Kicking is often an overlooked part in the game of football. It is so, so crucial, however. Having a good kicker can make a difference at the end of a game, in the field position game and more. Let’s take a look at five kickers who have impressed to this point in the season.
<strong>Patrick Ryan, Delbarton: </strong>The Delbarton senior kicker connected on a 45-yard field goal and his kickoff average is 53.5 yards, with 10 touchbacks. He has punted for an average of 34.3 yards. He has been a reliable kicker and has given Delbarton a ton of points as the Green Wave is off to a 4-0 start.
<strong>Giancarlo Carbonaro, Bergen Catholic: </strong>The Bergen Catholic junior kicker has been essentially automatic on PATs, missing just one on the season. He has been reliable in field goals, making three of four. He has an average of 51.4 yards on his kickoffs, and he has a long of 60 yards. He has five touchbacks on the year.
<strong>Mason Shenk, St. John Vianney: </strong>Shenk has been productive for St. John Vianney as the team’s kicker. The junior has made all 13 PATs, and he has booted 4-of-6- field goals, including a 44-yard attempt. St. John Vianney is 3-1 on the year.
<strong>Jai Patel, South Brunswick: </strong>Patel is a nationally ranked kicker, and it’s easy to see why. The South Brunswick junior is a perfect 19-for-19 on PATs, and he is 5-for-6 on field goals, with a long of 40 yards. He has been impressive on the kickoffs, with over 10 touchbacks on the season. Patel has also been efficient as the team’s punter. South Brunswick is off to a 4-0 start.
<strong>Steven Lopez, Bernards:</strong> Lopez is a senior veteran kicker who has been extremely efficient this year for the Mountaineers. He has connected on 14-of-15 PATs, and he’s 2-for-2 on field goals, hitting from 28 and 34 yards. He has been extremely efficient on the kickoff as well, averaging around 50-55 yards per game on kickoffs.
