On Friday night, Carl Albert defeated Del City 21-14 in a heated rivalry matchup that came down to the wire. In this matchup, many players big and small stood out to us and earned some recognition and praise. Here are the players from Carl Albert that had big nights in week two.
[player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"] - Quarterback - Class of 2021
At this point, [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"] needs no introduction. By the end of the season, Harris could go down as one of the most accomplished and decorated QBs in Oklahoma high school football history thanks in part to games like Friday night. Harris did not light up the stat sheet, but his poise and delivery in the big moments when the rushing attack was struggling is what made Harris’ performance spectacular. When things were starting to look down he took it upon himself to get his team back in the game with a rushing touchdown late in the 3rd quarter and then led another scoring drive late in the 4th quarter to give his team the lead and eventually the win. On Friday night Harris showed again that no stage is too big for him as he willed Carl Albert to a victory over Del City.
[player_tooltip player_id="38684" first="Buddy" last="Bizzell"] - Running Back - Class of 2022
Similar to Harris, Bizzell did not light up the stat sheet in this game, but when his opportunities came he took advantage of them. In a game where Del City slowed down [player_tooltip player_id="38487" first="Javion" last="Hunt"] for most of the night, [player_tooltip player_id="38684" first="Buddy" last="Bizzell"] was a nice change of scenery for the Titans as he used his power to grind out a few yards when they needed it most including his go ahead touchdown late in the 4th quarter. In close games like this with two teams filled with stars it often comes down to who has one or two x-factor players outside of their stars that can step up in the big moments and while some may argue he’s already a star, Bizzell was certainly a difference-maker on Friday night.
[player_tooltip player_id="51867" first="Gavin" last="Haines"] - Wide Receiver - Class of 2021
[player_tooltip player_id="51867" first="Gavin" last="Haines"] showed Friday night that even though he’s not a top recruit in the state that he can contribute and make a difference in a big way. Along with [player_tooltip player_id="38584" first="Cobe" last="Crews"], Haines was one of [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"]’ top targets in this game and proved to be a very efficient route runner. Haines received the games first touchdown on a 20-yard pass from [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"] and remained prevalent throughout the night. Haines is definitely a player we will be keeping a close eye on for the rest of the year. If he keeps producing and the Titans keep winning, which is highly likely, Haines will certainly start getting attention from college coaches.
[player_tooltip player_id="38584" first="Cobe" last="Crews"] - Athlete - Class of 2021
This offseason when watching Crews we liked what we saw on film and hoped that he would make a big jump in 2020 and so far he has. Through two games Cobe has 8 receptions for 97 yards and a large portion of that production came on Friday against Del City. He was arguably [player_tooltip player_id="38534" first="Ben" last="Harris"]’ go-to target and seemed to have the ball in his hands every other play whether it be on a quick screen, jet sweep, or downfield throw. Crews is an incredible athlete who would likely get serious playing time at RB at most schools but is forced to play primarily at wideout for the Titans due to their stacked backfield. Cobe is currently getting heavily looked at by a few schools including Army, and with the type of season he’s on pace for, lookout for the scholarships to start rolling through for this young man.
[player_tooltip player_id="51868" first="Nathan" last="Mooney"] - Linebacker - Class of 2021
One of my favorite parts of attending games like these on Friday nights is discovering players like [player_tooltip player_id="51868" first="Nathan" last="Mooney"]. Mooney is a 5’10" linebacker who plays much bigger and always seems to be around the football. Though Del City rushed for over 200 yards aginst Carl Albert, Mooney made some big plays when it mattered most in this matchup. In the 3rd quarter when Del City had all the momentum and was on the move, Mooney helped force a fumble and he then recovered the fumble for his second turnover of the season in just as many games as he had an interception last week against Midwest City. Watch for Mooney to be a big riser in our rankings if he continues to produce big performances like this.
