Let’s take a look at which returning quarterbacks lit up the box score last season.
Devin Kargman Devin Kargman 6'2" | QB Woodrow Wilson | 2022 State NJ , Woodrow Wilson, Jr. – Kargman put up some incredible numbers in his sophomore season with Woodrow Wilson. He finished 257 of 371 for a 75 percent completion percentage. Kargman totaled 3,750 yards with 44 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. He added another three TDs on the ground. Kargman was extremely efficient in the season opener against Camden Catholic, finishing 17 of 22 for 339 yards and six passing TDs. He threw five TDs in victories over Camden and Shawnee, and his season-high in yardage came against Holmdel (449). Kargman has generated college offers from programs such as Buffalo, FIU, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rutgers, Temple, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and West Virginia, per 247Sports.
Andrew Butler Andrew Butler 6'4" | QB DePaul Catholic | 2021 State NJ , DePaul, Sr. – Butler has a good frame at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. In his junior year, the 3-star, pro-style quarterback completed 185 of 287 passes for a 64 percent completion percentage. Butler threw for 2,890 yards, 28 TDs and six interceptions. He didn’t throw a pick in six games. DePaul took the Non-Public, Group 3 championship last season, and Butler was extremely efficient in the title game over Mater Dei – going 24 of 34 for 363 yards and three scores, throwing zero INTs. The 363 yards were the most he threw on the year. Butler threw four TDs in games against Pope John, Delbarton and Donovan Catholic. Butler is a 3-star prospect and still waiting for a major Division I offer.
Ah-Shaun Davis Ah-Shaun Davis 6'2" | QB Willingboro | 2021 State NJ , Willingboro, Sr. – Davis was second in the state last year with 38 passing touchdowns. The Willingboro senior threw for 2,600 yards. He was clean, only throwing six interceptions. Davis added another four scores on the ground. His completion percentage was at 58 percent. Davis’ best performance came in a shutout over Camden Catholic, where he threw for six TDs and a season-best 384 yards. Per 247Sports, Davis has received offers from Bowling Green, Delaware State, Lafayette, UMass, North Carolina Central, Temple and Wagner.
Donovan Leary Donovan Leary 6'2" | QB Timber Creek | 2022 State NJ , Timber Creek, Jr. – Leary had a very productive sophomore year for Timber Creek, accumulating 2,746 yards and throwing 26 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions. He completed 180 of 289 balls for a 62 percent completion percentage. Two quality performances last season came against Warren County (Va.) and Vineland. Against Warren County, Leary went 19 of 30 for 341 yards and an incredible six TDs. Against Vineland, Leary finished 16 of 25 for a season-best 368 yards and two scores. Leary is a 3-star prospect and has received college offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Central Michigan, East Carolina, Maryland, UMass, Old Dominion, Rutgers, Temple, Toledo and Virginia Tech, per 247Sports.
Dario Bryant, Cedar Grove, Sr. – Bryant threw for 28 touchdowns in his junior year at Cedar Grove. He completed 150 of 260 throws for 2,430 yards. He had 10 interceptions on the year. One of Bryant’s top performances came in a 35-26 win over Newark Collegiate. In that game, he completed 20 of 25 balls for a season-high 374 yards, with five TDs.
Austen Frattura, Sparta, So. – Frattura was certainly a freshman to watch a season ago. In 10 games of action, he completed 25 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He completed 60 percent of his throws, and he showcased his ability to light up a defense. Against Roxbury last September, Frattura threw for 320 yards and four TDs. He has already received an offer from Pittsburgh. Expect more strong numbers with another year under his belt.
Tahjamell Bullock, St. Peter’s Prep, Sr. – Bullock threw 28 touchdowns in his junior year for St. Peter’s Prep. The program captured its first state title since 2014 a season ago, and Bullock was a huge reason why. With his ability to throw and run, Bullock was extremely dangerous. He finished with 2,250 yards in the air and 461 yards on the ground, also scoring five rushing TDs. He is expected to have a strong year before heading off to Virginia Tech.
