We’ve reached the top 50 of our Reason for the Rankings series. As we continue to count down, we’re getting to the very best players in the state. We’re getting to players that could make big pushes for top slots in the next rankings update.
50. [player_tooltip player_id="28482" first="Anthony" last="Freeman"], 6’ 215, LB, Northern Durham
Also a standout on the offensive side of the ball, Freeman is a hard-hitting linebacker that is committed to nearby Duke. He displays good speed and excellent versatility on the defensive side of the ball as both a pass rusher and in coverage. Because of his extensive experience at running back, the Blue Devils could choose to use him there as well.
49. [player_tooltip player_id="28481" first="Dalton" last="Stroman"], 6’3 180, WR, Richmond Senior
A recent Appalachian State commit, Stroman is a tall receiver with excellent ball skills. He’s quick enough to win on short and intermediate routes and has the straight-line speed to run away from defenders after the catch. He’s the third-highest Group of Five commit in our rankings.
48. [player_tooltip player_id="28480" first="Jaylen" last="Wright"], 6’ 200, RB, Southern Durham
Wright, our No. 4 running back in the state, has a great combination of size and speed. He’s a state champion in track and he uses that speed well, getting up the field in a hurry. He doesn’t dance a lot, instead making one cut and getting north and south. A Tennessee commit, Wright is one of the state’s premier impact skill players.
47. [player_tooltip player_id="28479" first="Jacob" last="Gill"], 6’ 170, WR, Cardinal Gibbons
A versatile receiver that can impact the game in a lot of different ways, Gill’s best trait is his ability to make tough catches. He has a good release and even when he’s not wide open, he uses his body well to make tough catches. Gill is an elite kick and punt returner as well and should be able to make a quick impact at Northwestern, where he is committed.
46. [player_tooltip player_id="28478" first="Mario" last="Love"], 5’9 185, DB, Hough
Love is a speedy corner who consistently puts himself in position to make plays. He has excellent technique and plays as a much bigger corner despite his size. Our third-ranked defensive back, Love is committed to NC State. He has all the makings of a future star in the ACC.
