With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Alex Viner Alex Viner 5'10" | 150 lbs | RB Lone Tree | 2021 IA – Lone Tree
It will be interesting to see where Lone Tree lines Alex Viner Alex Viner 5'10" | 150 lbs | RB Lone Tree | 2021 IA up this fall.
The Class of 2021 standout ran for 677 yards and scored 11 times last year, adding 22 receptions for 451 yards with eight more scores as a receiver. He also completed 6 of 9 passes for 104 yards, and Lone Tree’s starting quarterback, Harmon Miller, graduates.
Viner averaged over seven yards per rush and 20.5 yards per catch, adding 31 tackles on defense. On special teams, he posted 25 yards per kickoff return with a TD and 11.5 yards per punt return.
Cole Watts – Montezuma
One-half of an incredibly talented receiver duo at Montezuma, Cole Watts finished last year with 59 receptions for 1,116 yards and 21 TDs.
Watts averaged just under 19 yards per catch while also making 35 tackles on defense. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Trey Shearer – Montezuma
The other half of that duo for Montezuma quarterback and Class of 2022 prospect Eddie Burgess is Trey Shearer.
One of the best basketball players in the state, Shearer straps on his helmet each fall. He hauled in 58 passes for 1,006 yards and 19 TDs as a junior, adding 101 yards and five scores on the ground.
Shearer also recorded 38 tackles and picked off three passes on defense.
Tanner Cormeny – Moravia
Despite being the focal point of opposing defenses, Moravia’s Tanner Cormeny still found a way to produce night in and night out.
Cormeny ran for 1,002 yards with 14 touchdowns, averaging almost nine yards per rush for the Mohawks. He also had nine receptions for 202 yards and two more scores.
In all, Cormeny accounted for over 1,200 of Moravia’s 2,047 yards and 16 of the 30 offensive TDs.
On defense, he was in on 106.5 tackles with 70 solo stops and 7.5 for loss while also recovering three fumbles and picking off a pass. As a kick returner, Cormeny returned two for scores and averaged 22.5 yards per return.
Kade Dunkin – Twin Cedars
Every team needs a playmaker to be successful on offense. At Twin Cedars, that is Class of 2021’s Kade Dunkin.
Last year, Dunkin had 51 receptions for 536 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 10.5 yards per catch. He also carried the ball another 42 times for 316 yards with three scores, posting 7.5 yards per rush.
On defense, Dunkin was all over the field as well, recording 90.5 tackles with 77 of those being of the solo variety. He picked off five passes and forced two fumbles while also handling kickoff and punt return duties.
