With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Jake Paysen – East Sac County
East Sac County presented some problems for opponents last year with Jake Paysen doing some of that damage.
Paysen, a Class of 2021 prospect, ran for 570 yards and five touchdowns on 140 carries. He could be expected to shoulder even more of the load this season with the graduation of Quintin Ludwig, who had 502 yards and 10 scores.
Caleb Villhauer – East Sac County
Another key piece to the East Sac County offense is receiver Caleb Villhauer, who hauled in 15 passes for 259 yards and a pair of scores.
Villhauer averaged just over 17 yards per reception, making 23.5 tackles on defense including 16 solo stops.
Cameron Sharkey – OABCIG
Everybody knows about Cooper Dejean and what he did, leading OABCIG to a state championship last year. He earned himself a scholarship to Iowa along the way, but he has plenty of great talent around him, too.
That includes Cameron Sharkey, who could be primed for a breakout campaign.
With Jake Nieman and his 1,300 yards gone, Dejean will need someone else besides Easton Harms Easton Harms 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR OABCIG | 2022 State IA to look to. Sharkey had 21 receptions for 295 yards with five scores a year ago, and could slide into a bigger role.
Sid Schaaf – Treynor
How about this for a season? Treynor’s Sid Schaaf had just eight receptions, but racked up 243 yards on those.
That comes out to an average of 30 yards per catch, including a touchdown.
Schaaf was also a special teams ace for the Cardinals, averaging 15 yards per kickoff return and almost 22 per punt return, including a score.
Brayden Wollan Brayden Wollan 5'11" | 165 lbs | ATH Underwood | 2021 IA – Underwood
Following a breakout junior campaign, Brayden Wollan Brayden Wollan 5'11" | 165 lbs | ATH Underwood | 2021 IA will be looking to reach another milestone at Underwood this fall.
Wollan finished last year with 46 receptions for 909 yards and 11 scores, averaging almost 20 yards per catch. He should have a great chance at surpassing the 1,000-yard mark this year.
On defense, Wollan also made 51 tackles with 44 solo stops and 3.5 for loss. He also picked off three passes, returning all three back for scores and recovering three fumbles.
