Prior to last season, every starting quarterback at San Clemente dating back to 2008 received a Division 1 scholarship or started at least one collegiate game. Duke DeLancellotti, Chase Rettig, Travis Wilson, Sam Darnold, Jack Sears and Brendan Costello all have laced up their cleats on Saturdays with Rettig and Darnold making it to the NFL.
The Tritons have also produced a handful of collegiate skill players during that time. San Clemente currently has three skill players on Prep Redzone’s Player Rankings: Bentley Redden Bentley Redden 6'5" | 215 lbs | ATH San Clemente | 2021 State CA , James Bohls James Bohls 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB San Clemente | 2021 State CA and Cole Batson Cole Batson 6'4" | 190 lbs | ATH San Clemente | 2021 State CA .
Redden, also a member of the school’s basketball team, is very intriguing. At 6-foot-5, 215-pounds, he doubled as a receiver and defensive end last season.

He had a breakout game in the Tritons’ first round playoff win against Valencia where he had 4.5 sacks.
Redden holds 18 offers with Arizona State, BYU, Kansas and Tennessee appearing to be recruiting him the hardest.
“Although I haven’t necessarily narrowed down my list, I would say that BYU and Arizona State are definitely the front runners,” Redden said. “I have strong ties to both schools and really like their programs and what they have to offer.”
Redden grew up going to games at Arizona State and his father Matt was a defensive end on the BYU football team.
“One of the things I like about these schools is definitely the coaching staff and family environment they provide for their players,” Redden said. “I hold my academics at a high standard and both schools have great things to offer in that regard. I’m looking to major in some aspect of business and I know they both have great business schools.”
Redden has a 4.33 GPA and as a result has received offers from multiple Ivy League schools as well.

He has not taken any official visits with any schools and was hoping to this summer before COVID-19 forced the NCAA to put a temporary ban on official campus visits. Redden did take an unofficial visit to BYU last season when they hosted USC.
Despite not taking any official visits, Redden hopes to commit some time in the near future before football season starts.
“I was planning on committing sometime before the season starts,” Redden said. “That way I can get it out of the way and focus on my team and the season.”
Redden is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and will likely serve a Mormon mission right out of high school and be a part of the class of 2023.
