He currently sits as the only ranked quarterback in our 2023 rankings. That won’t be the case for long as our 2023 rankings will begin to flourish once the season begins, but Burdine does have a case to stay at the top of the list even after the rankings expand.

Burdine, who just finished his freshman campaign at Reading high school, is a rising star in the High School Pennsylvania scene. He compiled 290 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and 2 interceptions in 11 games for Reading. The passing numbers may not exude a premier passer but where he really does his damage is on the ground. He’s a great athlete who loves to burn defenses with his feet. He ran for 418 yards on 94 carries, scoring twice, while also contributing as a kick returner which you don’t often see from your starting quarterback. It’s understandable, however, when you watch the film and see the great open-field vision and elusiveness for yourself. He’s got real speed and agility. There’s no mistaking the kid’s athleticism, he can juke defenders out of their cleats while maintaining good balance and awareness when taking off.
Yet still, we know it takes more than great athleticism to be the best quarterback of your class. There’s a ton of work needed to be done in order for Burdine to maintain his top spot, his footwork, release and throwing mechanics as a whole need to be fine-tuned and there’s ample time for him to do that given he is just a sophomore. Despite only completing 20 passes his freshman season, he put some really quality throws on display that show you why this prospect has potential. He can absolutely rocket the ball downfield, he just needs a clean pocket and time to step into his throws to deliver said rocket. Arm strength is a plus with Burdine. He is comfortable when executing RPO/Option style plays, having good enough timing, IQ, and accuracy to hit slant routes if running lanes aren’t there. It shows he isn’t just an athlete under center. We will see if Reading’s offense can open things up for him this coming season to really show off the arm he has. Amier needs reps and he has plenty of time to develop into a special player. Filling out his frame is a must and he has the potential to do so as well as learning the ins-and-outs of the position. We, along with scouts along the east coast, will be sure to keep an eye on Burdine’s development going forward.
