QB: Cole Corey, 5’11, 160, South Central Calhoun
This is a lefty with a ton of ability to scramble and get outside the pocket. He’s not afraid to run in between the tackles and can provide versatility in the QB run game. He excels at throwing on the move and has excellent touch on the vertical ball.
QB: Ty Walker, 5’10, 170, Dallas Center-Grimes
Walker may be a smaller QB at 5’10, but man can this kid air it out. He has excellent footwork and timing that allows him to hit his wideouts in stride. He has a rare talent of being able to climb the pocket and keep his eyes downfield at possible targets, which is hard to find in high school QB’s.
ATH: Payton Vest, 5’10, 185, South Tama
Payton is a dynamic return man with good wiggle. He’s a very gifted route runner who knows how to set up defenders and get them to trail. Vest has good vision and will take advantage of cutback lanes. On defense, he is a hitter and will deliver punishing blows to the opposing team. I think he has a serious future as a slot WR at the next level.
DL: Brennan Sweeney Brennan Sweeney 6'3" | 215 lbs | DL Waukon | 2021 IA , 6’3, 215, Waukon
Sweeney was relentless at getting after the QB in 2019. He uses his long arms and impressive body control to shed blocks and get to the ballcarrier. His best trait is his versatility; he can line up with his hand in the dirt and rush the passer as a DE or drop into coverage and run with slot WR’s as an OLB.
LB: Zach Truitt, 5’10, 200, Des Moines East
A true sideline to sideline player who doesn’t stop till the whistle is blown. Truitt has good closing speed and is an expert at diagnosing a run play and tackling the ball carrier behind the line. This kid is athletic and did some good things as an H back in the blocking game and receiving game. He could be a steal for some college program.
ATH: Trey Mathis, 6’, 200, Webster City
Mathis has exceptional patience and consistently waits for his pulling guards to set up their blocks. He’s a hardnosed runner and will drag linebackers who stand in his path. He was spectacular towards the goal line and seemed nearly irreplaceable. I think he could be a fantastic OLB at the next level as well.
DL: Luke Recker, 6’2, 240, East Buchanan
Recker is quick of the ball with not only his feet but also his hands. He’s a natural hand fighter and does a great job of not leaving his body susceptible on his swim move. Luke plays with low pad level and was a mean finisher as an OL on the offensive side as well.
ATH: Dustin George, 6’, 170, Interstate 35
Dustin Geroge did a little bit of everything in 2019. As a WR, he did most of his work after the catch, breaking free for long TD receptions. I think he’s at his best at DB, where he was a playmaking machine last fall. One of his underrated attributes is his ability to play special teams, and it could get him on the field early at whatever school he chooses to attend.
