Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

Colleges have done well in mining Iowa's 2027 recruiting class. Twelve different guys have verbally committed to Power 4 programs. Quite a few others have pledged to FBS and FCS schools.

Even with those sizable numbers, a lot of talent from the state for the cycle remains in the board. Here's a closer look at a group of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='2059037' first='Gavin' last='Gerritson'], ATH, West Sioux

Announced offers: Northwestern College, Morningside, Dordt.

The Situation: Gerritson was an impactful two-way player during West Sioux's run to the state semifinals in 2025. The junior contributed 78.0 tackles (63 solo, 7.5 TFL0), earning first-team all-district honors on defense. He was a second-team all-state pick at tight end where he racked up 556 receiving yards and six touchcowns. Gerritson's junior highlight video reveals a physical athlete with room to add strength and sharpen fundamentals. Positional versatility stands out as an attractive trait for colleges dealing with smaller roster space. He certainly would contribute on special teams, too.

Northwestern College, Morningside and Dordt have offered him opportunities to play at the next level. He's also heard from North Dakota State, Upper Iowa and Central College.

[player_tooltip player_id='1602643' first='Devan' last='Goode'], RB, Ankeny

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Goode played a backup role at Ankeny Centennial. He did it very well, rushing for 300 yards (7.5 YPC) and three touchdowns, adding seven catches for 70 yards and a score. Goode also shined in the return game. A downhill runner, he stands out as a physical running back during his junior highlight video of 2025. While strength stands out as a top trait for Goode, he's more than just a bruiser. Patience and vision lead to success. There's lateral quickness and straight-line speed. Goode is a fine running back prospect for the next level, but should development stall at the position, his skill set would work on defense.

Augustana, Sioux Falls, Upper Iowa, Moorhead, Chadron State, Northwestern College and Illinois State have been in contact with Goode on the recruiting trail. A sound senior season at cross-town Ankeny will raise his stock even more.

[player_tooltip player_id='2059685' first='Zachary' last='Grider'], ATH, Johnston

Announced offers: Drake, Northwestern College, Grand View, Minnesota State Moorhead, Quincy.

The Situation: Injuries cost Grider a pair of games last season. When he was on the field, production could be expected. The junior totaled 46.0 tackles with 39 of them being of the solo variety. Grider intercepted a pair of passes and was credited with a dozen pass breakups. He also forced a fumble. As can be witnessed when watching his 11th-grade highlight video, speed, athleticism and physicality help lead to success. Grider smoothly pack-pedals and changes directions. His projectable frame can comfortably add weight and strength without the loss of quickness and agility, contributing to what is a sizable ceiling.

Drake, Northwestern College, Grand View, Qunicy and Minnesota State Moorhead have offered scholarships. Duluth and Dubuque also have been in contact with Grider.

[player_tooltip player_id='1205105' first='Kayden' last='Hawley'], ATH, Clarinda

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Hawley is listed as an athlete here for good reason. He reports running the 100 meters in 11.2 seconds and leaping 37.8 inches in the vertical jump. There's also evidence of strength backed by a reported 235 pounds in the bench press, 395 on the squat and cleaning 245. The testing measurements match up well with his junior highlight video, where he flashes a well-rounded skill set at receiver. Hawley can get deep with speed off of the line or rip off a slick route working the middle of the field. Athleticism and agility aid in winning contested balls. Hawley also is a threat as a returner and would be a special teams' asset on the next level. A path to success on defense also isn't hard to imagine.

Simpson, Wisconsin Platteville, Morningside and Wayne State have shown interest. He's worthy of more attention along the recruiting trail.

[player_tooltip player_id='1361333' first='Colt' last='Hobson'], ATH, Prairie

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Prairie's 2025 roster was packed with a lot of talent. It wasn't easy carving out a role on the varsity, but Hobson was able to do just that. On defense, he racked up 33.0 tackles with 26 of the stops being solo. Hobson recorded 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack and an interception. He rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Hobson blocked a punt and gained 30 yards on three returns. His 11th-grade highlight video contains a diverse athlete that could end up at multiple positions in college. Safety seems like the most likely spot at present. He covers well and comes down hard against the run. Special teams' contributions can be expected.

Hobson visited Grand View in April. Upper Iowa, Wartburg, Dubuque, Buena Vista and Morningside also have been in touch.
