What We Learned from Week 6
The Mr. Football Award is a Two-Man Race:
- Russell Corrigan Russell Corrigan TE Hutchinson | 2020 State MN , QB/P/TE/LB, Hutchinson
Hutchinson quarterback Russell Corrigan Russell Corrigan TE Hutchinson | 2020 State MN had another dominant performance in week six. In a matchup against a very underrated Delano team, the Boise State commit came to play. He continued his usual dominance on the ground- while he ran for 102 yards on 22 carries, with four touchdowns. He also added some work through the air, where he was five of ten passing for 83 yards. Hutchinson used their stud’s play in route to a 30-12 victory over Delano.
- Jonathan Kieren, RB, St. Anthony
At this point of the season Corrigan’s only competition to take home the Mr. Football award might be St. Anthony running back Jonathan Kieren. In week six the senior running back continued his streak of literally video game like stat-lines with 256 rushing yards on 30 carries to go along with four touchdowns on the ground. The Huskies rode their bell cow in route to a 27-0 win over St. Croix Lutheran. Both players have solid argument to take home the award, but there is not doubt it will be an entertaining race to watch down the stretch of the season.

Class 4A is the Best Class in MN Top to Bottom:
Class 4A is the home to some of the most dominant and complete teams in the state. There are eight total teams that are undefeated in the whole class, with a handful of other serious contenders. I will rank the top five teams that I think have the best chance to take home the class 4A state title.
- St. Paul Academy/Minnehaha Academy/Blake Wolfpack (6-0)
SMB is the headline team of the class. The Wolfpack have arguably the most talented roster in the state with Jalen Suggs Jalen Suggs 6'4" | QB SMB | 2020 State MN , Kaden Johnson Kaden Johnson 6'4" | LB SMB | 2020 State MN , and Terry Lockett just to name a few. There is no doubt they’ve played up to their potential this season. They have outscored their opponents by an astounding total of 251-44. There will be plenty of teams that will be looking knock off SMB come playoff team.
2. Hutchinson Tigers (6-0)
Hutchinson is led by this year’s Mr. Football frontrunner senior QB Russell Corrigan Russell Corrigan TE Hutchinson | 2020 State MN . The Tigers have one of the best rushing attacks in Minnesota averaging nearly 300 yards per game on the ground. As well as Corrigan being dominant on the ground, senior running back Tyler Schiller has been elite in the run game. Hutch will look to get some revenge on their early season exit last playoff season.
3. Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights (6-0)
The Red Knights are coming off of a dominating win over Robbinsdale Copper with a score of 35-0. On the season Benilde has been an even better rushing team than Hutchinson. They are averaging just over 300 yards on the ground per contest this season. They are led by ultra-talented sophomore running back Camden Royal Camden Royal 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Cooper | 2022 State MN who has been averaging 10.8 yards per carry for 791 yards on the season. Benilde will try to reach the section 5AAAA championship game where they had a thrilling game with SMB last season that ended with a game-clinching Jalen Suggs Jalen Suggs 6'4" | QB SMB | 2020 State MN INT and a 14-16 loss for the Red Knights.
4. Winona Winhawks (6-0)
Winona is led by one of the best defensive players in Minnesota, senior defensive lineman Aaron Witt Aaron Witt DL Winona | 2020 State MN . Witt is currently committed to play at Wisconsin next season. The Winhawks defense has been dominant in 2019, they have only let up double digit points in only two of their six games. Their offense is led by senior RB and QB duo Trevor Pomeroy, and Jackson Nibbelink who have combined for 22 total touchdowns on the season. The Winhawks will be a tough out come playoff time.
5. Fridley Tigers (6-0)
Fridley is coming off of a statement win 31-6 over formerly undefeated Mound Westonka. The Tigers have a serious argument to be the best defense in the entire state. They have only let up 26 points the entire season. The heart and soul of their team is senior linebacker/running back Michael Ude. He has over 40 total tackles on the season, as well as two interceptions and one fumble recovery- with one of the INTs being returned for a touchdown. Ude also has over 500 rushing yards on the offensive end. Fridley has shown to be one of the most complete teams in the state.
