Just a sophomore while being his first year at a new school, Johnson has stepped into a starting role on the Lions defense and excelled. This Mid-Tennessee product has played several roles in the secondary this Fall, showing potential at multiple positions. What stands out about Johnson is his lower base agility and quick feet along with his ability to run. Another thing that pops on film with this guy is his physicality and willingness to tackle in run support. Johnson has played the most at safety this season and that’s where I think he translates best in college. He shows the range to handle the boundary and the speed to play in coverage. The Lions sophomore does need to work on his ball tracking, speed and weight gaining but the building blocks are there to become an impactful player for Columbia over the next two years while boosting his college stock.

2029 Savages WR/DB Zion Johnson Zion Johnson 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Columbia Central | 2029 TN brought a different dimension to the team with his length and athleticism, impacting the game on both sides of the ball. Johnson was a problem in 1-on-1 situations, using his frame and leaping ability to go up and win at the catch point, especially on fades and go balls. It felt like anything in his area was his, and he made it tough on defenders trying to contest. On defense, Johnson made his presence felt as well, using that same length and speed to disrupt and challenge receivers. With his range and ball skills, Johnson turned into a matchup headache all day during their championship run.
