Expert Analysis
Cole Laing | Prep Redzone Scout
Adequate height and size, with a frame to add mass. Solid athleticism with good balance, acceleration, foot speed, foot quickness, change of direction, hip fluidity, flexibility, solid lateral agility, hand quickness, and explosiveness. Plays cornerback and wide receiver. I like him best as a cornerback at the next level. As a corner, he shows good LOS skills in press, using his good foot quickness and solid hand quickness in Press coverage to get his hands on the WR at the LOS. Good in Off-coverage, showing good backpedal to match the WR in the stem of the route. His good hip fluidity allows him to turn and match the WR in man coverage, with good foot speed to keep tight coverage. Shows good Zone processing, can process the passing scheme, and uses his good change of direction to make a break on the WR. Solid ball skills, able to disrupt the pass and play through the hands of the WR. He is a good tackler that you can depend on in the open field.
As a WR, he shows solid release off the line of scrimmage, with solid route running and separation quickness, best utilized in short routes where he gets the ball quickly. He has good hands that will snatch the ball with good adjust with his body to secure a catch that is not in stride. He accelerates quickly after the catch and looks to lower his shoulder to barrel through defenders rather than making a finesse move. Shows solid strength and good toughness as a ball carrier and will fall forward.
Overall, a solid prospect whose floor is an early contributor at a Division II program in my opinion, and very well could develop into an D1 starter after a couple of years of development.
