Another key position coming into this season is the running back spot. The Blue Jays had one of the best running backs in the state a year ago so replacing that isn’t going to be easy. But we do like what we saw from junior running back Zane Thomas Zane Thomas 5'10" | RB Guthrie | 2026 State OK last season. Thomas was just a sophomore and earned plenty of playing time to lessen the workload for Harper at running back. This season, don’t be surprised if Thomas becomes the marquee running back in this Guthrie offense. And if that’s what ends up happening, Thomas could end up being a breakout player in 5A football this fall. Guthrie’s experience on the offensive line will also help pave the way for Thomas.

Coming into the 2023 football season, we knew what to expect from Calvert and Harper in the running game. But the Blue Jays have another standout that has helped their rushing attack. Sophomore running back Zane Thomas Zane Thomas 5'10" | RB Guthrie | 2026 State OK is off to a great start to his sophomore season and has provided the Blue Jays with more depth and it’s allowed Calvert and Harper to not have to carry the load. In the first two games alone, Thomas had five touchdowns on the ground. Last week’s win over Duncan was the first time Thomas didn’t reach the end zone multiple times. He still found it at least once and comes into this week with six touchdowns on the ground.
