2027 quarterback Daelon Rice Daelon Rice 6'4" | QB Guthrie | 2027 OK comes into this season as one of the more experienced quarterbacks in Class 5A football. He’ll be a three-year starter for the Blue Jays and looks to lead Guthrie back to the Class 5A state championship this fall. He did it once as a sophomore and then led a high-powered offense last year as a junior. Rice now looks to close out his high school career by taking Guthrie back to the top of 5A football. There might be question marks elsewhere on the Guthrie offense with new starters emerging but there are no question marks about the quarterback position.

Deleon is a dual-threat quarterback with a strong arm and the ability to extend plays when the pocket breaks down. He throws well on the move, showing good ball placement and touch, especially on the deep ball where he puts it in positions only his receiver can make a play. Deleon keeps his eyes downfield while navigating pressure and is an effective runner when he tucks it. I would like to see continued development in his pocket presence, particularly with footwork and maintaining active movement when staying in the pocket, which will only elevate his overall game.
Overall, a talented quarterback with the ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground.

Junior quarterback Daelon Rice Daelon Rice 6'4" | QB Guthrie | 2027 OK returns for his second season under center and his first season as the full time starter. In 2024, Rice would split time with Carlock in the backfield and both brought different things to the Guthrie offense. In 2025, Rice will be the main guy running things and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does with the opportunity. He played very well in the playoffs, specifically in the semifinal win over Newcastle. Rice will immediately pass the eye test when he steps on the field. And last season, he gave the Blue Jays a legitimate dual-threat option with the passing and running games. We believe Rice’s production will get a major boost in 2025.
