is such a well-rounded back that I find myself becoming more and more impressed with his game every time I watch new film. Gilbert’s fast and powerful back is averaging 115 yards a game with nine touchdowns on the season so far. Following a dominant Week 1 performance, I detailed some of the things that make Thompson so effective:
His strong base gives him good power and makes him difficult to bring to the ground, even when attacking his legs, while his quick feet allow him to work through the chaos of the trenches without being sucked into it by stronger defensive linemen. Thompson’s vision may be his best asset, consistently making the right decisions when it comes to when to cut back and what holes to hit.

has a dangerous blend of speed, power, and vision that make life hard for every defensive coordinator that has to gameplan for him. At 6’1″ and 185 lbs, Thompson can both power through defenders or make them miss with his impressive agility. Once he makes it past the second level of the defense, the chances of him not making it into the endzone get pretty slim. As a pass catcher, he’s shown that he has reliable hands. Though he doesn’t run the crispest of routes, what he can do after the catch makes him someone the defense has to focus on. Coming off a junior year where he found the endzone 12 times (11 rushing and one receiving), Thompson is going to make a big impact on Gilbert’s offense in 2024.

is a 5’11 190 pound running back out Gilbert High School who got his first start last Friday. He didn’t disappoint with 16.1 yards per carry and 129 yards. Thompson has great size for the running back position with a big frame that can add weight. His speed is pops off the screen creative massive runs as displayed by the yards per carry. The vision he displays in the power run game allows him to use quick upfield burst for big plays. In the passing game he can be lined up in the slot for recpetions and create explosive plays on screens. With him adding to the kicking game as well, Thompson is an all around running back ready to shine.
