Spirit Lake reached the Class 2A state championship game last season thanks to contributions from a wide array of student-athletes. Walz did his part in all three phases. His lone carry resulted in a 23-yard gain. He collected 21.0 tackles (18 solo, 3.0 TFL), a sack and an interception. Walz averaged 22.0 yards on two kick returns, and brought back nine punts for 158 yards and a touchdown. There isn’t much evidence of his exploits housed on his Hudl page. Most of the footage is of him playing basketball, which shows off the athleticism he brings to the football field. The clips on there do display what makes him find success on the gridiron. He’s fluid playing cornerback, flipping his hips smoothly to change directions with explosiveness breaking on the ball. It’s a skill set that also could work on safety on the next level.
