Expert Analysis
Oliver West | Prep Redzone Scout
Continuing a recent high-powered trend of Centennial DBs to make waves on the gridiron and eventual recruiting trail, 5’10, 155 lb. CB Wesley Kukkonen is an exciting two-way standout at the Big School level, hooping for Centennial’s varsity squad in the winter after what was a strong junior campaign on the gridiron for Kukkonen and his Cougars counterparts. The 155 lb. CB will come up and tackle 1v1 in space and on the edge, closes space quickly once he sticks his cleat in the turf and triggers on the ball, and displays solid eye discipline in man coverage. He does a good job of staying square and keeping the gate closed when pressing and finds and melts into a wideout’s hips once the route is in progress, and his loose hips help him transition and mirror well at the top of the route. Kukkonen can shed blocks with proper hand usage out on the perimeter, nearly popped off a pick-six versus Rogers, and displays the speed to stay on top of streaking wideouts working vertical. Local NAIAs, DIIIs, and JUCOs, don’t be shy! Also, Wesley, come raise your stock at April 18th’s PRZMN Spring Exposure Series’ Showcase stop in Plymouth!
