Perhaps one of the more overlooked prospects on the back to back Class 6 champions is running back

. He is a homerun hitter for the Tigers and made his mark to help Oscar Smith pull away early from North Stafford in the title game. It seems when their offense needs a dude to get a first down or run out the clock they give it to Curtis. One offer from Jackson State so far, Curtis deserves the same attention his teammates are getting.

Ty’jae has a natural ability to run the ball. Balance, Burst, and Quickness are the high points of his game. He displays good vision and patience to hit the hole and will keep his legs churning through contact. He is one piece to Oscar Smith’s very talented offense and is fun to watch play.

The top ranked back in our 2027 class I got see up close what Oscar Smith’s Ty’Jae Curtis was all about. Curtis arrived early and was on point, you can see why he averaged over 7 yards per carry for reigning class 6 state champs. He is so fluid out of the backfield and had excellent testing results too. The 36th ranked prospect showed why this past Saturday.

Curtis is the top Virginia running back in the class of 2027, and for great reason. His vision is great as he can hit lanes fast and decisively. He can cut quickly to make defenders miss and scrap for extra yards. I want to see the defending state champion test well this weekend and solidify himself truly as the leader for Virginia 2027 running backs.

Our top-ranked back in last year’s rankings has the case to remain at that position this year. The combination of speed, balance, burst, and short-area quickness define Ty’jae’s game. In his first season at Oscar Smith, he produced 109 carries, 790 yards, 7.3 yards per carry, and 10 touchdowns. He has a good frame at 5’9″ with strong legs bringing strength and power into his game as well. You don’t want to miss his film.

Ty’jae has a special combination of speed and strength as a runner. As a freshman playing varsity in 2023, he accumulated 1,505 yards, 16 TDs and was given 2nd Team All-Region honors. He has very good agility, acceleration, and short area quickness, with very good patience and vision as a runner, keying on his block with very good burst through the hole, displaying very good running strength and balance. In the open field, he has very good change of direction and elusiveness able to stop and go in one step. Can run routes out of the backfield, displaying soft hands, and quickly transitions himself into a runner after securing the catch. You do not want to miss Ty’jae’s film.

Each season athletes from the 757 Colts, arguably the top travel ball team in Virginia, pick up scholarship offers before they even start high school. This year is no different, with Running Back

having recently picked up his first offer from the legendary Deion Sanders and Jackson State. I had the opportunity to watch Curtis play live this summer and I can see why the early offer came. The kid is electric with the ball in his hands. In addition he’s a Swiss Army Knife when it comes to his skill set. Has no problem playing in the Slot or as a Cornerback, in addition to his natural position of Running Back.
